New Location: Tips and Rules

We are very excited to be moving to our new location! With the gorgeous space that FUMC is offering us in the middle of downtown Palo Alto with all its great food options, what's not to love? However, some things will be different; please take a moment to read through the following list to help you make your experience at WNH's new location the best it can be.

Come Earlier
We can't stress this one enough. Please allow yourself plenty of time to figure out parking, and navigate the new building; with the earlier ending time (see below) we'll be stricter about starting and ending classes on time.

Bring More Shirts
Our main floor is gorgeous, but doesn't have AC. There will be fans aplenty, but please consider bringing more shirts to change, in case you need them.

Faster Floor
The main floor is faster, too! Consider bringing several pairs of dance shoes, if you have them, to see which ones feel the best.

Absolutely No Food On Dance Floors
There's a kitchenette area where we'll have our usual snacks. Please don't carry any food onto the dance floor. It's truly gorgeous, let's leave it this way!

Don't Go Where You're Not Supposed To
FUMC is a big and beautiful building, but we're only renting a part of it. We'll have signs blocking off the parts of the building where we're not allowed. Please help us out by not going past these signs.

Dances Will End at 11:45
Our new venue is in a residential area, therefore an earlier ending time. Please be considerate of our new neighbors and leave the venue quietly.

No Band in October
We are doing a soft-reopening to make sure we respect the sound level limit. We will have live music on November, 4th. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for the fun themes and parties coming up this month.

October Classes: Register online

The registration to our October classes is now open!

Level 1 (8:15pm - 9:15pm)
w/ Carla & Philippe
6-count Lindy Hop

Start dancing from day one! We will get you moving in this month-long series that introduces you to basic footwork, turns, wraps, breaks and jazzy stylin'. Covers the 6-count basics, also sometimes known as East Coast Swing, also used in Lindy Hop.

PRE-REQUISITES: None. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!

Level 2 (7:15pm - 8:15pm)
w/ Hanah & Andrew
6-count & 8-count Combinations

When the worlds of 8- and 6-count swing collide, amazing dancing results! Join us in learning some of the classic and awesome 6/8 count moves you see on the dance floor. You might think we'll be baking, with moves that include words like "roll" and "sugar", and you won't be far off as we explore the recipe for mixing them into more texture-rich dancing!

PRE-REQUISITES: Level 1A-C; twice through recommended. Execute a swingout, lindy circle, charleston and 6-count moves and transition between them in open and closed positions. No partner required, just bring your enthusiasm!

Level 3 (7:15pm - 8:15pm)
w/ Julie & Justin
Fast Dancing

When the tempos start flying, your feet start foundering. Sound familiar? Experienced dancers will learn techniques to keep their dancing smooth and efficient at fast clips (180 bpm or above). This will enable you to dance to the most energetic, swinging music that our DJs can throw at you! PLUS, you gain access to our Fast Feet room to put your lesson into practice.

PRE-REQUISITES: At least nine consecutive months of Level 1 and Level 2 including one full year of social dance, or discuss your eligibility with instructors. Under-qualified students will be asked to transfer to Level 2 in order to strengthen their fundamentals.

Elective (8:15pm - 9:15pm)
w/ Margot & Richard
The Tranky Doo (Solo Jazz)

"The dipsy doodle is the thing to beware
The dipsy doodle will get in your hair
And if it gets you, it couldn't be worse
The things you say will come out in reverse
Like 'You love I and me love you!'
That's the way the dipsy doodle works."

If you've ever heard this song and wished you could join the rush to do this wacky dance, now is the time! Join us as we break the Tranky Doo down, learn the technique behind the moves, and perform it every time the DJ plays it during the dance!

PRE-REQUISITES: Having completed 3 months of Level 1. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!
