Dear ,

Re: COVID-19 mandatory vaccination of workers to attend the workplace

I am writing to inform you about the new public health direction issued by the Northern Territory Government that will affect you if, during the course of your work:

  • you are likely to come into contact with a vulnerable person; and/or
  • you are likely to come into contact with a person or thing that poses a risk of infection.

More information is available here.

A vulnerable person is defined as:

  • A child under 12 years of age
  • A person who cannot be vaccinated due to a contraindication to all available vaccines
  • An Aboriginal person
  • A person at risk of severe illness of COVID-19 for medical reasons such as being on immune suppressive therapy after an organ transplant, being over 70 years old, having a chronic kidney, heart, liver or lung disease and other examples listed here.

Workers who are likely to come into contact with a vulnerable person or a person or thing that poses a risk of infection include the following:

  • Workers who work with disabled persons, elderly persons or other persons vulnerable to infection with COVID-19
  • Workers who face customers or patients in health care and ancillary health care services
  • Workers who work in a community consisting of mostly Aboriginal people
  • Workers who provide community services
  • Workers in hospitals and other places to which symptomatic people may go, such as medical clinics.

Vaccination for attendance at workplace

Workers who are likely to come into contact with a vulnerable person or a person or thing that poses a risk of infection are required to:

  • receive a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 13 November 2021; and
  • receive a second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 24 December 2021.

Workers with evidence of a contraindication to all available vaccines are exempt and may continue to attend the workplace.

A worker who is not vaccinated or exempt from vaccination may still work from a place where the worker is not likely to come into contact with a vulnerable person or not likely to come into contact with a person or thing that poses a risk of infection with COVID-19.

A person conducting a business may also make reasonable adjustments to accommodate a worker who is not vaccinated.

Please stay safe, and if there is anything we can do to assist you during this time, please don't hesitate to contact the office on 03 9940 3900 or email: info@audiology.asn.au

Yours sincerely,
