D'ARCY SLATER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

2018-19 EA ENDURANCE COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS REOPENED

The Equestrian Australia Endurance Committee are once again calling for expressions of interest for the remaining 2018/2019 positions. The committee currently still have two positions vacant, including the Riders’ Representative. Applications close Friday 23 March 2018. MORE

SPORTSPASS LAUNCHING SOON

EWA members who have opted to join the SportsPass program when joining/renewing for 2018 will receive information on how to access their SportsPass benefits in the second week of February. Watch this space!

CHANGES TO NCAS COACHING SCHEME

Equestrian Australia today advised that the Australian Sports Commission is retiring the NCAS initiative and that NCAS Coaches must now remove all reference to the “NCAS” acronym from their accreditation titles.

No other changes are taking place at this stage, but EA will be rolling out the new Coaching Pathway later this year. Those currently enrolled in a course should not be affected and will have ample time (12 months at least) to complete their course and gain recognition into the new Coaching Pathway. MORE

2018 COACHES COMPULSORY UPDATE

Coaches are requested to save the date for the 2018 EA EWA Coaches Compulsory Update to be held on Monday 12 March at the State Equestrian Centre. Registration will be from 8.15am for a 9:00am start. The day will include:

• Craig Barrett EA Level 2 Eventing Specialist and Coach Educator
• Helen Cunningham from the WA Sports Federation on the Working With Children legislation
• Roz Tippett an EA Level 3 Dressage Specialist on Coaching to improve Dressage marks
• Webinar by Gow Gates on Insurance
• A discussion on changes to the coaching system

The registration form will be available on the EWA website next week. Proof of current Senior First Aid Certification and Working With Children clearance will be required.

DRESSAGE SQUAD SELECTIONS UNDERWAY

Selections are now underway for the EWA La Noir Saddleworld Dressage High Performance Squads for 2018. Unlike some of the other discipline squads, the Dressage Squads are not open for public application. Athletes are selected based upon the criteria and their results from the preceding six to twelve months. Successful athletes will be sent a letter of invitation in mid-February. MORE

Officials are reminded that reaccreditations are due every three years. Dressage Judges whose accreditations expire in 2018 must be able to meet the reaccreditation requirements by 31 March 2018. Forms will be available from the Equestrian Australia website in mid-February. MORE

FEI YOUNG EVENTING RIDER AWARD

Congratulations to Will Baxter - winner of the 2017 Valley Equine Vet Centre FEI Young Eventing Rider of the Year Award. 2017 was the final year the scholarship was being offered in conjunction with EWA, and EWA thanks Warwick Vale for offering this opportunity to WA's up-and-coming young athletes over the past four years.

CONGRATULATIONS MARTIN & CHRIS

Eventing WA would like to congratulate Martin Hellier and Chris Edwards on their recent Course Designer (CD) promotion to National Level 3 and Level 2 respectively. The result of this is that Martin will now be able to CD up to CNC/CCN*** level and Chris up to CNC/CCN** and CIC/CCI*.

FEI REGISTRATIONS & NATIONAL PASSPORTS

A reminder to all riders and horses competing at FEI level eventing competition this year that FEI registration is based on the calendar year and needs to be renewed every January. Horses that are being registered with the FEI for the first time also need to be identifiable by the EA National Passport (some exemptions apply).
