China Approved Species ListThe Seafood Trade Advisory Group has followed up with the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment in regards to the submitted application to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) in June 2020 for the listing of three new aquatic animal products species (which were prioritised by the STAG in consultation with industry during 2019). Many of you may recall this was the first step under the new GACC requirements for listing of new species. Under this new process, the Department will be provided with a questionnaire for these products to assist GACC with its risk evaluation and approval for listing. The Department has followed up on the progress of their letter and their expectation for receiving the questionnaire and was advised by GACC that they are still reviewing the letter. Upon receipt of the questionnaire, the Department will then have a much better understanding of the information that GACC will require for further applications for new (including the pre-2012) species for non-viable aquatic products. When the Department proceeds to complete the questionnaire, the STAG has been assured that information that has already been collated for this first tranche of species by the STAG will be drawn upon. The Department will continue to follow up with the GACC on this matter.
