Together we can light a candle in someone's darkness
The past few months have seen incredible suffering across the world and at home. Suffering appears in our personal lives for many reasons - losing an income, leaving behind a relationship, grieving for a loved one - it often brings with it a darkness that is hard to light.
At Lutheran Community Care our teams walk daily with people through their dark times, reflecting the light of Christ and igniting hope for a brighter future.
Help light a candle for young people like Rebecca...
After graduating from high school, 18-year old Rebecca enrolled in TAFE courses, hoping to one day find work in the hospitality industry. She was living with her father and 12-year old sister when for unknown reasons her father packed his belongings and left, leaving Rebecca to care for her young sibling.
When she visited us for food assistance she broke down crying, saying she was trying to be strong and didn't want us to see her cry.
With our promise of offering longer term support, we addressed Rebecca's immediate needs and sent her home with an emergency food parcel. Rebecca came back and enrolled in our cooking class where she learnt basic meal preparation skills that opened up a new world of healthy eating. We are still working with Rebecca to help her find employment and are working with Centrelink to sort out the payments for her sister.
As a Lutheran Community Care supporter you are part of a community that believes light can overcome darkness, even when all seems lost. Together we can light the way for many like Rebecca and give her hope as she learns to be a light for others.
Light a candle for someone in need and help us reach our goal of lighting 1,500 candles to lighten the load of 1,500 people before Easter.
