![]() Finance and Administration May Newsletter Message from Duane McNair, VP Finance and Administration I have celebrated six months at Carleton and have gone through the first budget process at the university, which has been a learning experience. As part of the senior leadership’s commitment to transparency around the budget, I hope you have had the opportunity to take in the President’s Town Hall or the Provost’s budget webinar, as they both provided important information about the state of the university’s finances and our initiatives toward “mission sustainability.” I am looking forward to welcoming John Clements to Carleton on June 2 as the new Associate Vice-President (Facilities Management and Planning). As well, I have announced a number of changes within the division that have been shared with you. I have included it here as well: It’s with mixed emotions that I am letting you know that three members of our leadership team are retiring this year: Maria McClintock (Assistant Director, Strategic Initiatives and Communications) is retiring on June 30, 2025; Brian Billings (Executive Director, Campus Safety Services) will retire Aug. 1; and Cindy Taylor (Associate Vice-President, Human Resources) will retire at the end of December. A search committee for the AVP HR will be struck at the appropriate time. I want to take this opportunity to thank Maria, Brian and Cindy for their dedicated service to our division and to the university and I look forward to celebrating them. As part of our ongoing efforts to identify new ways of working, I am pleased to announce that on July 2, 2025, Campus Safety Services (CSS) and the Office of Risk Management (ORM) will become the new Department of Risk Management under the leadership of Associate Vice-President Peter Leland. This model reflects a best practice at other post-secondary institutions, and the timing also aligns with Brian’s retirement. The CSS and ORM teams have been informed, and I want to express my gratitude for their professionalism as we move through this change together. In addition, as of June 1, 2025, the Office of Quality Initiatives will report directly to my office to lend their expertise on what lies ahead. I will continue to keep you updated on any budget-related changes. As we move toward the summer months, I want to share that President Wisdom Tettey will formally be installed at the June 16 Convocation ceremony. Convocation is a special occasion on campus and takes place from June 16 to 20. Information about the ceremonies can be found here. I look forward to seeing you around campus. Sincerely, Duane News ![]() ![]() Annual Clean-Up the Campus Event Thank you to the staff, faculty and students who participated in annual Clean Up the Campus initiative hosted on Earth Day, April 22, by Sustainability Carleton and Healthy Workplace.
