He āhua roa te wā koutou e tatari mānawanawa ai mō te putanga mai o tēnei nā kawerongo rorohiko, he aha ai? Nā te rahi o ngā kaupapa whakahirahia kei mua i te aroaro a mātou, i tēnei nā wā. Heoi anō, kua tau ngā ngaru whawhati, kua hiki te kohu, kua puta ētahi ara whakamua.  Ākuanei, ka hui tahi tātou kia āta wānanga ai ngā  whiringa.

First, I want to acknowledge everyone during this COVID-19 lockdown. We recognise the challenges ahead in this lockdown for everyone. Please get in touch and let us know if you anticipate any issues with your productions.

It’s been some time since our last pānui. The past few months have been full of exciting change for us here at Te Māngai Pāho. We have launched a new website, have a full complement of kaimahi, and our Poari has been able to re-assess our funding programme for the 2022 year in light of Budget 2021.

Earlier this year, we said goodbye to two of our young stars Sonny Ngatai and Cherie Mangu who left us for ‘greener pastures’. Sonny has joined PWC as a Senior Analyst. Both of them played important roles in assisting our communications with the sector and we will miss them. In recent weeks we also farewelled our Kaitiaki Pūtea | Corporate Accountant, Madelon Grant. We wish Sonny, Cherie and Madelon all the best and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them. The good news is that we have a new cohort of talented young Māori who have joined us in the last month or two – find out a little more about our new kaimahi below!

Funding Rounds

We appreciate that some may have been disappointed and inconvenienced by our decision not to proceed with the advertised Innovation Round. We apologise for that. But unfortunately, we needed to make some late changes to our plans for the 2022 financial year. The good news is that the Board has identified and approved some additional funds for distribution. As a result, we are considering the possibility of re-visiting the notion of an innovation round later in the year.

The not so good news is that any plans we have developed over the last three or four weeks will now need to be reassessed in light of the latest COVID-19 lockdown.  The overall health of the sector is of real importance to Te Māngai Pāho and we will do our best to monitor progress and where possible provide additional support to mitigate issues.

Please watch this space and we will do our best to keep you posted on developments as they unfold.

Māori music

HUIA - 'Marama La Luna'

Scribed during the blood moon eclipse, Reggaeton record ‘Marama La Luna’ (Moon Moon) by Huia is out tomorrow!

Both soothing and mysterious, the track was produced by Huia, with music additions from Rei and polished to perfection by Chris Chetland at Kog Studio.

The waiata embraces four languages - Te Reo Māori, NZ English, Spanish and Italian which are all part of Huia’s whakapapa. The lyrics speak of how the moon can bring memories flooding back, how she can give comfort over the ages to all who gaze at her beauty.
