Planning for effective waste management in multi-unit developments

Twenty-three council planners joined us online to learn how to effectively plan for waste management and recycling in multi-unit developments (MUDs) last week. Delivered in partnership with the Planning Institute of Australia, the training helps planners to implement state government policies and guidelines for waste management and recycling in MUDs through the planning permit process.

Read about how the City of Monash is addressing the challenges of managing waste and recycling in MUDs with the release of new guidelines mandating the provision of food waste recycling in new developments.

New resources promote food and green waste recycling

New green bin stickers that show food waste recycling is a social norm and colouring in sheets for children to highlight what can go in the green bin are the latest in a suite of resources we’ve developed to help councils promote food and green waste recycling to residents.

Ed Net community of practice goes virtual

We’re taking conversations online to lead local government in delivering engaging and impactful waste education programs. We’ve launched a Yammer community for our Local Government Waste Education Network (Ed Net) that supports the existing meetings and workshops and provides a space to share council resources, ask questions and join conversations on current issues and best practice in waste education.

New guidelines require food waste recycling in Monash's MUDs

The City of Monash is addressing the challenges of managing waste and recycling in multi-unit developments (MUDs) with the release of new guidelines for property developers. The guidelines—which include the mandatory provision of food waste recycling—are based on MWRRG’s Improving resource recovery in MUDs toolkit and are an important step in achieving a more consistent approach to waste management planning in MUDs across metropolitan Melbourne.

Engaging with culturally diverse communities on waste, recycling and litter toolkit

One in four Victorians are born overseas, coming from more than 200 countries and speaking over 260 languages and dialects. Our Engaging with Culturally Diverse Communities on Waste, Resource Recovery and Litter toolkit helps council waste educators overcome language and cultural barriers. It provides guides and resources that were developed using the practical experience and knowledge gained from previous waste education projects with culturally diverse communities.

Find out how you can engage effectively with your diverse communities here.
