Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre (WPNEC) is to receive funding of $500,000 from Sport Australia to develop a new, large multi-purpose sand and fibre arena and supporting amenities. Equestrian Victoria (EV) successfully applied for the grant on behalf of WPNEC through the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant Program.

Equestrian Victoria member, Chris Wallis, was one of only four finalists in the Julius Patching Award held last month. Presented by the Victorian Olympic Council, this award is in recognition of the unprecedented and tireless contribution of Julius L Patching to the Victorian Olympic Council (VOC) and Olympic community. Judy was a voluntary Official from 1947 until his death in 2009. This award recognises the outstanding contribution that officials make to the fabric of the Olympic sporting community in Victoria. This award is open to volunteer officials and administrators who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their sport.
Chris has played a pivotal role in the advancement of Equestrian sport over many decades. She is highly regarded by her peers for her emphasis on succession planning and her strong and selfless focus on developing others. She is renown for regarding her teams' success as the most important part of the sport. We congratulate Chris on receiving her award and a very big thank you from us all for her selfless work over many years.

The 2019 Horseware Australia Victorian Interschool Championships concluded on Sunday after an action-packed week at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre. Werribee Park was a bustling centre of activity last week with the 2019 Horseware Australia sponsored Victorian Intershool Championships. The event showcased the future generation of equestrian athletes as they represented their schools, at what has become a highly anticipated annual event. This event offers Interschool competitors the opportunity to
qualify for a position on the Victorian Team which will represent the state at the National Championships held later this year.

Safety concerns were are at the forefront of event organisers and Ballarat International Horse Trials decided to lead the way in off horse safety for riders. Friday and Saturday night entertainment took place in the Inflatable Pub. Injuries to committee members Nina & Viv at non horse equestrian functions sparked the move to make having fun as safe as possible. 🤣

OFF THE TRACK RETRAINER AWARD - $2500 PRIZEThis year we are delighted that our major event partner, Racing Victoria's Off the Track program will be awarding an OTT Retrainer's Award along with the best performed OTT horses across 4 discipline specific awards. “We are thrilled to see the introduction of the Racing Victoria Acknowledged Retrainer Award recognising the hard-work and dedication that our diverse and highly skilled network of Retrainers do with retired racehorses”. “Our Retrainers are tasked with re-educating retired racehorses for second careers as performance and pleasure horses and championing them as the ideal equestrian athletes. “They are an integral part of our Off The Track Program, and
their dedication and loyalty to partnering with Off The Track thoroughbreds deserves recognition, and that’s exactly what this award will do." - RACING VICTORIA
sMEASURING DAYThe next measuring day will be held at Werribee Park, this weekend, May 19th from 8am to 10:00am. Enquiries: showhorse@equestrianvictoria.com.au. We are also measuring with SHC and the RAS in a combined day at Werribee Park July 7th, it is important to note that at the combined measuring days you need to obtain a certificate from each organization.

SHOW HORSE WINTER CLINICS FOR 2019Show Horse winter clinics have now been scheduled for the following dates: - Saturday June 15
- Sunday July 21
- Sunday August 18
Applications are now open for the Winter Clinic No 1 on Saturday June 15. The Winter Clinics offer quality instruction by EA/NCAS instructors in a safe environment. We are delighted to announce that the instructors for this first clinic will be Francesca Christie and Jordan Smith. Cost is $66.00 inc Facility fee. $50 refunded on attendance. Limited spaces are available.

There were some fantastic results for Victorian riders at the recent Sydney CDI. Some highlights included Victorian rider Maree Tomkinson riding DMJ Donna Elena who took out the Grand Prix CDI Special during the third day of competition. Young Rider Lindsey Ware followed up her win in the Agnes Banks Equine Clinic FEI Young Rider team test on Thursday with victory in the young rider freestyle with a super score of 73.835% on Aristede. Victorian-based Gitte
Donvig and the German-bred mare Harmonie W backed up her win in the Prix St Georges CDN with a victory in the KC Equestrian Intermediate I CDN with 67.11%. Karen Blythe and the beautiful Sonic K were 2nd in the 4yo Horse Round 1 with a whopping score of 81.2% and eventually took out the CHAMPION 4YO HORSE at Congratulations Karen and Sonic. PARA EQUESTRIANS COMPETE AT SYDNEY 3DE
Dressage Victoria extends a HUGE Congratulations to the Victorian based Para-Equestrian riders who ventured up to the Sydney 3DE to compete in the CPEDI - qualifier for Tokyo 2020. Zoe Veronas on board her new mount Neversfelde Kippling managed to gain herself a qualifying score and also the highest score across the grades in the Team Test of 69.84% Matilda Carnegie also posted some impressive scores to be named Reserve Champion in the Grade IV while Bridget Murphy had a very successful competition earning herself Reserve Champion in the Grade II. Congratulations riders, we look forward to following your results across the qualifiers over the next 12 months.

JUMPING VICTORIA STRATEGIC REVIEWIn February 2019, SBP was engaged by Equestrian Victoria (EV) to undertake a strategic review of the structure and delivery of Show Jumping in Victoria. The project objective was to deliver a robust Jumping Victoria Committee and EV Board paper, which: - Provides evidence and analysis to validate and support the strategic direction of the Jumping Victoria Committee over the next 3-4 years;
- Informs the process to secure member support for the strategic direction, and;
- Establishes systems and process for managing and implementing the strategic direction.
JUMPING LICENCESJumping is one of the key equestrian sport disciplines in Victoria. We are committed to building and improving the services we deliver to support our membership to enable them to live their equestrian dream. Recently Equestrian Victoria (EV) and Jumping Victoria (JV) have been working together to bring the jumping community enhanced competition experiences and opportunities. We know that the Jumping community is a strong
one. We recognise the social fabric that connects you and provides you, as members, with a unique sense of belonging each time you come together. And we want to celebrate and enhance Jumping to make it truly great for everyone.

The
Squad season will be conducted over 5 weekends coached by Brook Dobbin, with the first squad completed on 27-28 April at Werribee Park NEC with guest coach Jamie Murray. The final weekend on the 5th-6th October will host a training day and Junior and Young Rider Show on the Sunday. As part of our show program Jumping Victoria has extended an invitation to Equestrian riders in New Zealand bringing both a Junior and Young Rider team for the Bi-annual Trans-Tasman challenge hosted at Werribee Park NEC. This has been a long standing event hosted by Jumping Victoria for State Squad riders. The Squad also consists of 4 Development squads with riders to be coached by Adam Wootten, Amy Strapp, Adam Prime and Jervaise Prime. Also running is a Squadettes group for
riders under 12 years, with coaches Emily Hill and Cindy Morrison kicking off the April training day.
