Dear friends and colleagues,
April has been a difficult month. We wish to express our condolences with friends and colleagues who have suffered because of the virus. Knowledge Quarter partners, large and small, are doing their level best to bring educational resources and collection items to you at home, to keep you and your family diverted, entertained and enlightened. We have compiled the most recent of these efforts below.
There are good news stories among the bad. The actions of Knowledge Quarter organisations to support NHS staff and local communities, through donation drives, testing for COVID-19, and the production of much-needed personal protective equipment, is something to be collectively proud of. On the national stage, our medical
communities are raising awareness about the low supplies of PPE, and our research organisations are making it easier to learn about the virus, discover treatments and a vaccine.
While posterity may be kind to some of us, less certain is the fate of our posteriors, as the majority of us do our bit by sitting about indoors all day. To motivate the circulation, our next virtual private view is on the subject of Yoga. You may know, or may be discovering in the gym studio that used to be your living room, the difference between an upward- and a downward-facing dog, but how much do you know about the ancient history that originated the supple practice? or the spiritual traditions that underpin it? Join us on 6 May, with lead curators at the Brunei Gallery at SOAS, to discover more.
Until then, we wish you good health and an enjoyable month at home.
With best wishes,
Knowledge Quarter Team

KQ Virtual Private View – Embodied Liberation
Wednesday 6 May 15:00-16:00
Exhibitions may be locked behind closed doors, but we are working with curators to bring the KQ's cultural offering to the digital realm. Join us online at 3pm on Wednesday 6 May for a look at the history and traditions of yoga, featuring exhibits from an exhibition due to open at SOAS's Brunei Gallery.
Embodied Liberation showcases the work of the Hatha Yoga project, a ERC funded project led by an international research team, which charts the history of yoga practice through key texts and fieldwork among yogi in India.
We will be joined by the exhibition's curators, Dr Daniela Bevilacqua and Jacqueline Hargreaves.
Sign up via eventbrite to receive a link to Zoom.
