Key Messages Week 8 - Term 4Year 10 Thanksgiving Mass & Awards Ceremony On Tuesday evening, the JPC community recognised our Year 10 students with an end of year Thanksgiving Mass & Awards Ceremony. After an inspiring Mass from Fr. Jiss, the students received their Year 10 Certificates and awards for Semester 2, 2019. We congratulate the following students for receiving the Year 10 perpetual awards:
We wish all our Year 10 students the very best for the coming years and look forward to working with them in their senior schooling. Congratulations! Stephanie O'Meara Principal (Acting) It’s nearly the end of the year! If your student has grown out of, is updating, or no longer needs their current JPC uniform, we would appreciate your help! Our Second-Hand Uniform shop is in need of more uniforms to assist in ensuring that we can provide an inexpensive option for families in need of uniforms. If you have a uniform that is clean and still in good condition but is no longer needed, we would appreciate your donations! Please feel free to drop these off at the Office so that others can benefit from your contributions. We thank you for your support and generosity! If you are in need of uniforms, please email the college office about whether they have the items and sizes that you need (your student can purchase these as well!). Items can also be purchased through the JPCII - Uniform & Tech to You Facebook page - Click here to join the group In and Around the School School of Rock Students who participate in music, drama, and dance went to the Sydney Capital Theatre to watch the School of Rock musical on Wednesday 27 November. 50 students attended and we found the trip very rewarding after all our work and effort during the term in performing arts. It was tirelessly fun and I think all of us enjoyed it. A big thank you to the teachers for organizing this trip. The student all appreciate it. Edward Butt, Year 7 Indigenous Group End of Year Gathering After a very busy and rewarding year, our Aboriginal students, families and mentor teachers gathered on Monday 2nd December to celebrate with an informal afternoon tea get-together, featuring native bush foods made by our year 10 Hospitality students. We also welcomed incoming students to this event. Thanks to Megan Hadjuk for overseeing the catering and her exceptional organization, Greg Mitchell for his help this year, Tom Purdon, (and Codie Haycraft in absence) for their support as Courage captains, to Ally Hampton our 2019 Indigenous Captain and to Alex Jackson from AIME for attending this and many other JPC Aboriginal functions this year. We wish our departing students the very best for the future and look forward to getting to know our new students in 2020. We have an exciting year ahead with the development of our long-awaited Indigenous garden at the front of the school. I would like to wish all of our Aboriginal students and their families a happy Christmas, a safe holiday and a happy new year J Annie Daley Contact Teacher for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Students Social Justice Bake Off On Tuesday afternoon, the Social Justice Group of JPC finished the year off with something a little more Christmas themed for the homeless people of Canberra. The students from years 8-10 participated in a session of baking where the students created various treats including gingerbread, shortbread, oreo balls and brownies for the St Vincent de Paul Night Patrol Van. The students hope that the homeless will be able to enjoy the treats baked. Hopefully, these treats will allow this time to be a bit more joyful for the individuals that are without a home this holiday season as we approach Christmas. Lastly, the Social Justice Group hopes that all the families of JPC have a wonderful Christmas this year and that the homeless people of Canberra will also have a safe yet joyful Christmas too. Thanks! Miss Zorzi and Mrs Haines Christmas Picnic Extravaganza On Wednesday night, JPC held their end of year Christmas concert which was combined with the World’s Greatest Shave. All 16 music ensembles, along with the amazing work of the tech crew, performed a range of music on the terrace to family, friends and community members who relaxed on the oval with their picnic rugs and chairs. The weather could not have been better with 24 degrees during the day a minimal wind during the evening. The reason for this event was because of young Mia Gibb, who has an Aunty (Kessie) who suffered with Leukaemia who is now 18 years old. Her experience with Leukaemia was a positive one as she has now recovered and simply needs regular checkups. It was amazing to have Kessie with us on the night to help celebrate the event. I congratulate Mia on wanting to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave and raise money for people living with this disease. Thank you so much Kessie for flying from Ballarat to be there with Mia at this event. The wonderful Martine Thompson (Greg Thompson’s mum) was our hairdresser for the evening. Mia Gibb, D’Artagnan Felizardo, Mila Valenzuela and Mia Eyles all shaved their hair, while Georgie Genero got the trim of her life. Taashi Maunsell, Greg Thompson, Michaela Johnston, Grace Henden, Angelica Dodds and Logan Salvage all coloured their hair. All of these amazing students spent so much time raising money for the Leakaemia foundation by doing extra chores at home, speaking in PC and simply asking family, friends and staff to donate to this cause. I am so incredibly proud of all these students, as is our whole JPC community. It was also Adam Schranz’ 13th birthday on the day of the concert. Instead of celebrating at home with a family dinner, he performed like a rock star and bought his whole family along to the event. Thank you for sharing your birthday with our concert Adam, we hope you had an awesome day. That night we also said farewell to many of our students who are leaving JPC for many reasons; some have just finished year 12, others are moving schools in Canberra, and others moving states. Aron and I thank all these students for their involvement in our music programs over the past years. We wish them all the best for their next journey. There are many thank you’s for this amazing night as it ran so smoothly and was such a lovely evening due to all of these people. Teena Zorzi and Ashlee Turner for supervising our students after school. Jonathon Langshaw for coming back to school to help pack up and lock up the school. Alagaysan Segaran for coming to this event after his own children’s end of term performance that same evening. Steph O’Meara, Chloe McCallum and Cheryl Jones for coming to support the event. Natasha Bramham for taking photos all night. My musical partner in crime, Aron Lyon, for organizing this event with me, and making it such an amazing evening. It’s so great working with someone who has just as much passion for teaching music as I do, we make a pretty awesome team! To the parents, family and friends who came to support our students at this event. It was so wonderful to see so many people there enjoying themselves listening to our students perform. A huge thank you to those who stayed back to help Aron and I pack up all the equipment, we really appreciate your help with this as it was a huge job. One final thank you to all students involved in this concert. Obviously, we couldn’t do it without you and you all make our job so very worthwhile and we love our jobs because of the involvement of the students we have at JPC. The total raised for the Leukaemia foundation so far is almost $8000 with $670 raised at the concert alone. I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and donating to this cause. It is still not too late to donate. If you would like to contribute click here. Cinderella 2020 Musical Production It is an exciting time for JPC Arts as we announce the 2020 musical production will be Cinderella, a pantomime by Suzan Holder. As part of offering our students genuine learning experiences, to be part of the performance, they are required to audition! This allows roles to be offered which best cater to student abilities. Cinderella is a Pantomime, meaning it has a strong element of audience participation, cliched humour and exaggerated characterisation. Auditions will run TERM 1 WEEK 2, after school Wednesday 3.45pm – 5pm. There may also be additional auditions on Thursday afternoon. Students have already been able to collect auditions packs from Mrs Smith. If you are interested – please collect a pack and practice over the holidays! Audition packs will still be available at the beginning of 2020. The production will run Term 3, Week 3 Thursday 6th August – Saturday 8th August 2020, with three performances available to a paying audience, full of your adoring fans! We look forward to communicating more exciting news about the production of Cinderella! We will be also asking for our community help and support in the areas of costume donations, sewing costumes and other areas. If you are willing to help out, please feel free to contact the College or Mrs Sarah Smith directly. We look forward to making the production a memorable experience for the entire JPC College Community!
