FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 3, 2021 CONTACT: VICTIMS SPEAK: HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY CAMPAIGN CALLS OUT REGENTS - VOLUME 5 Abuse Survivor Chuck Christian Demonstrates University of Michigan Regent Michael Behm's Blatant Hypocrisy Over the Handling of the Anderson Sexual Abuse Cover-Up ANN ARBOR - Former University of Michigan athletes, and sexual abuse victims, are taking aim at several Board of Regents members who have been hypocritical in their refusal to call for an investigation into the systemic breakdown of protocols that allowed for decades of sexual assault and rape by Dr. Robert Anderson, and the subsequent cover-up. Spotlight Michigan has previously released four videos in its "Highlighting the Hypocrisy" campaign, and featured former Michigan Tight End Chuck Christian ('77-'80) and former running backs Jarrod Bunch ('86-'90), Jon Vaughn ('88-'90). Today, Spotlight Michigan is launching the fifth video in that campaign. In the video above, Christian highlights how Regent Michael Behm advocated for the rights of sexual assault survivors while campaigning for the Board of Regents in 2014, yet now shows abuse survivors that those words were just empty campaign rhetoric. In the video above, Christian says: IN 2014, WHILE CAMPAIGNING FOR HIS CURRENT SEAT ON THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN’S BOARD OF REGENTS, MICHAEL BEHM HAD THIS TO SAY WHEN ASKED ABOUT CHANGING THE CAMPUS CULTURE TO PREVENT SEXUAL VIOLENCE. QUOTE - you can't ignore this problem. I think too many times the survivor of the assault is made to feel ignored, made to feel that they should be quiet and not pursue this. The university first and foremost needs to put a plan together to protect the rights of the survivor of the assault. And the voice of that survivor needs to be heard - END QUOTE. WELL REGENT BEHM, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? I’M FORMER UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN ATHLETE CHUCK CHRISTIAN, AND I’M HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY. Stay informed of the University of Michigan Regents' History of Hypocrisy at: https://umregenthypocrisy.com/ Spotlight Michigan is committed to exposing these crimes and providing a voice to the community of victims, families, friends, and University of Michigan alumni that demand accountability from the University for its failure to put students before predators. It is also imperative that protocols and procedures be updated and improved to ensure such systemic failures that allowed for both the abuse and the cover-up never happen again.
