JPC Key Message Week 2, Term 3 2020

In and Around JPC

Year 9 and 10 Electives 2021

It may seem early, but we are already looking to determine our electives for Years 9 and 10 for 2021.

This will be a two-stage process:

  1. Student nomination for four (4) ELECTIVES undertaken next year (from 8 preferences), which significantly inputs into the creation of the timetable. Student selections determine if specific electives run and how many classes of each elective are filled, limited by the availability of specialist rooms and teachers.
  2. Student allocations will be communicated and students may request a change dependent on space and other student movements (Term 4).

It is not anticipated that there will be any movement of students between electives at the start of 2021.

Given the timetable is created around student selections, it is important that students consider their choices seriously. It should also be noted that there are no prerequisites moving into senior College (Years 11 and 12) so students are encouraged to select broadly and experience a range of subjects.  However, many electives have two units on offer that, depending on student choice, can allow keen students to effectively choose to complete a year-long subject or to take one in Year 9 and another in Year 10.

Students will be emailed their login details for Web preferences and they will be instructed to select 8 preferences. Ideally, students would get their first 4 preferences, however, in reality, some lower preferences will need to be accessed. No student will be allocated an elective not on their list.

JPC has a timetable programming session booked for Week 4, so it is essential that we collect student preferences by the end of Week 3. Please encourage your students to complete their selections asap and follow the timeline in Web preferences.
