RON FLEMING NEW EWA BOARD CHAIR

"Colin Chantler has been Chairman of Equestrian WA for the past 3 years and has led us through some difficult times. His contribution has been invaluable and we look forward to his continued support as Vice Chairman over the coming years.

During the 3 years that Colin has been Chairman I have worked alongside him as his Vice Chairman and we have formed a strong working relationship, working with a number of CEO and acting CEOs during this time.

It would be remiss not to mention Sophie Stott’s contribution to the Board also. Sophie has been on the Board of EWA for 6 years and due to personal commitments has chosen to stand down for 2017. Sophie has always been passionate about providing a strong member culture for our equestrian sport and whilst she will be missed on the Board I am sure we will continue to benefit from her ideas and support in the future.

As a result of the resignation of Sophie, we are keen to replace her as soon as possible and the Board has decided that we would like to target someone with an Accounting background who could provide us with added financial management strength and take on the role of Director of Finance for EWA. Should there be any members who know of someone suitable, or is interested in the role please contact our CEO to express your interest.

The Board elected me to take on the role of Chairman - a role that I am honoured to accept, and understand that there will be a lot of hard work associated with it. I look forward to working with your Board, the Sports Committees and our CEO Dwight Pedlow.

For members who do not know me, I have a lifelong background with horses, having worked in the thoroughbred breeding industry, trained racehorses, broken in and re-educated many horses. I rode in eventing for many years before my more recent transition to Dressage. I managed the State Equestrian Centre for a number of years in the late eighties / early nineties before moving into Vocational Training initially within the TAFE sector and now am the Manager of Racing Industry Training with Racing and Wagering WA where I oversee training and recruitment of apprentice jockeys, jockey welfare including Workers Compensation and general promotion of Careers in Racing which includes supporting training organisations deliver training for the horse industry."

Ron Fleming

CLARIFICATION OF NOVICE POINTS

Following enquiries, the Australian Dressage Committee wishes to clarify the status of Novice Grading Points earned prior to 1 January 2017.

2017 EA Dressage Rule 1.16 (g) states:
Points are accrued when the horse or pony gains 61% or above in Official Competitive competitions from Elementary level and above.

The intention of the rule change is to allow horses to gain confidence without the pressure of acquiring grading points too quickly in the formative stage of their careers.

Horses graded Novice pre 1/1/2017 cannot revert to competing officially at Preliminary, however from 1/1/2017 all newly registered horses and ponies start with a grading of Preliminary/Novice and do not earn upgrading points until competing in Elementary.

EVENTING - NEWS

VALLEY EQUINE VETERINARY CENTRE

The WA Eventing Committee would like to thank Warwick Vale and the team at Valley Equine Veterinary Centre for their continued support of our state's eventing community.

Valley Equine Veterinary Centre provides $2500 each year to Eventing WA, plus veterinary attendance at one WA FEI CIC/CCI event in an FEI Veterinary Delegate Capacity, and two annual veterinary lectures to WA Eventing Squad Members.

They also sponsor the FEI Young Eventing Rider of the Year Award, which aims to foster the young eventing rider into FEI competitions. The award includes a prize for the most outstanding and successful horse/rider combination of the year and allows for some financial assistance for further training and education for that combination during the following year.

______________________________________________________________________

CLARIFICATION OF DRESS RULES

Following enquiries, the Eventing WA Committee wishes to clarify rule 538.4.1, particularly in regards to stocks and ties.

2017 EA Rule 538.4.1 Jumping Test (Civilian) states:
Hunting dress or uniform of a riding club; white shirt and tie; white, fawn or cream breeches; boots are compulsory for this Test. At CICs of 1&2 star level civilian may also wear a tweed jacket with fawn or beige breeches and black or brown boots.

Clarification was obtained from FEI Eventing Steward General, Chris Wallis, who states "Stock and tie are grouped together so although stocks are not mentioned in FEI jumping rules they are covered by "tie". It does say white tie but we can be fairly liberal with the colour white so I do say off white acceptable. We do see huge variations in colour and riders need to be aware that at any time the GJ may speak to them about wearing incorrect gear. A stock is allowed with hunting dress."

MURRAY EQUESTRIAN ASSOC. SEEKS CNC COMMITTEE

Murray Equestrian Association are looking for enthusiastic individuals to establish an Organising Committee (OC) to run a CNC event at the grounds located on Murray Street, Coolup WA.

CNC events are Equestrian Australia sanctioned events of a National standard. The initial plan is to run an event to CNC** possibly *** level with a longer term strategy to make the event an international (CIC) level event sanctioned by the FEI. At this stage there is a possibility of running the first event in mid-October this year.

This will be an entirely new committee with support provided by local people who have been involved in the event management area so you won’t have to do it alone. Event management can be demanding at times but it's very rewarding and this event will contribute to the long term sustainability of the sport here in WA so your involvement will have a broader impact.

If you are interested in getting involved, or even just getting more information please come along on the 12th of February.
Date: Sunday February 12 from 10:30am
Venue: Murray Club Rooms, Murray Street, Coolup
What you need to bring: Just yourself and perhaps something to write on.
Sausage sizzle provided.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Anne Taylor ataylor19@bigpond.com or Kate Ingham kate.ingham@finance.wa.gov.au.

The elected members of the EWA Jumping committee - Tracey Barber, Lucy Galovicova, Kevin Gianatti, Rosemary Inglis, Renatta Milczarek and Kevin Tully - would like to announce that the following members have been appointed to the EWAJ committee for 2017:

JUMPING LEVIES

EWA jumping rider levies have stayed the same for a number of years whilst remaining comparatively low relative to eventing and dressage. However the EWA Jumping Committee have decided to increase these levies from 1 March 2017 to $4 per round with a maximum of $24 per rider.

The levy increase is due to rising costs with the increased revenue being used to restructure our current leaderboard program as well as develop EWAJC travel and equipment programs, thereby benefiting riders of all levels.

2017 LEADERBOARDS

The EWA Jumping Committee has restructured our Jumping Leaderboard Series Programs for 2017 that will see the introduction of 2 new series leaderboards.

Our well supported HOTY and Silver Series will continue into 2017 with increased prize money support to the host clubs. EWAJ has decided to replace the Novice Country Championship Series with a Bronze Series and Novice Series of events in that both city and country host clubs will be available to participate.

A standalone "Newcomers Leaderboard" will be introduced which will be open to all horses in their first year of official competition upon registering for a jumping card. More information on the Newcomers Leaderboard will be available soon.

The Amateur and YR Leaderboards, which are kindly sponsored by Equineworld, will also continue in 2017. EWAJ is also currently working with EWA on the Young Masters Series.

EWA Jumping is looking forward to an exciting year of competition for 2017 and would like to wish all riders and supporters a great 2017.
