RON FLEMING NEW EWA BOARD CHAIR
"Colin Chantler has been Chairman of Equestrian WA for the past 3 years and has led us through some difficult times. His contribution has been invaluable and we look forward to his continued support as Vice Chairman over the coming years.
During the 3 years that Colin has been Chairman I have worked alongside him as his Vice Chairman and we have formed a strong working relationship, working with a number of CEO and acting CEOs during this time.
It would be remiss not to mention Sophie Stott’s contribution to the Board also. Sophie has been on the Board of EWA for 6 years and due to personal commitments has chosen to stand down for 2017. Sophie has always been passionate about providing a strong member culture for our equestrian sport and whilst she will be missed on the Board I am sure we will continue to benefit from her ideas and support in the future.
As a result of the resignation of Sophie, we are keen to replace her as soon as possible and the Board has decided that we would like to target someone with an Accounting background who could provide us with added financial management strength and take on the role of Director of Finance for EWA. Should there be any members who know of someone suitable, or is interested in the role please contact our CEO to express your interest.
The Board elected me to take on the role of Chairman - a role that I am honoured to accept, and understand that there will be a lot of hard work associated with it. I look forward to working with your Board, the Sports Committees and our CEO Dwight Pedlow.
For members who do not know me, I have a lifelong background with horses, having worked in the thoroughbred breeding industry, trained racehorses, broken in and re-educated many horses. I rode in eventing for many years before my more recent transition to Dressage. I managed the State Equestrian Centre for a number of years in the late eighties / early nineties before moving into Vocational Training initially within the TAFE sector and now am the Manager of Racing Industry Training with Racing and Wagering WA where I oversee training and recruitment of apprentice jockeys, jockey welfare including Workers Compensation and general promotion of Careers in Racing which includes supporting training organisations deliver training for the horse industry."
