SHOW HORSE - NEWS

Congratulations to all riders, ponies and horses that travelled across the Nullarbor to compete at last weekend’s EA Australasian Show Horse & Rider Championships. This prestigious event was held at the Werribee Park Equestrian Centre in Victoria and attracted a record number of competitors from all States of Australia and New Zealand.

The Western Australian Team performed very well against some very strong competition in hotly contested classes. Notable performances were:

  • Carona Park Fairy Footsteps (ridden by Mercedes Mathews), awarded third place in the Small Show Hunter Pony under 12hh.
  • Yartarla Park Mannequin (ridden by Ivy Parsons), awarded third place in the Small Pony 12hh & under.
  • Breebrooke Just Joey (ridden by Amelia Hall), awarded third place in the Large Pony over 13hh & not exceeding 14hh.
  • Redline Classic Edition (ridden by Orleans Graetz), awarded Reserve Champion in the Child’s Large Show Hunter Galloway over 14.2hh and not exceeding 15hh.
  • Bevanlee Folklore (ridden by Chris Lambert), awarded Reserve Champion for Show Hunter Galloway over 14.2hh and not exceeding 15hh.

Many thanks to Equestrian WA and the Show Horse Working Party for their ongoing commitment and support of our Show Horse Team – the newly designed WA uniform was worn with great pride. The EWA Welcome BBQ was much appreciated by all, and we thank Eileen Morris for the use of her truck’s BBQ and her expert cooking skills!

A big thank you to Ramsay’s Horse Transport who once again generously supported our WA Team, as well as to Jodee Mathews who provided free Equissage bags to our riders and gave Equissage sessions to our ponies and horses at the Nationals.

Marlene Kinder (and her band of helpers) decorated the stables beautifully in the WA colours of black and gold, and in addition Marlene received a special commendation for cake decorating at the Bake Off. Our WA Team also won a trophy for winning the 2016 Games Competition which included apple-bobbing and a three-legged race. And to top things off, Lisa Vince won the $200 prize for the tipping competition. Well done everyone!
