St John's School Newsletter Term 2 Week 3 St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to Catholic Education Week! This year we celebrate 200 years of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Sandhurst. Our schools have come along way from the tents that the Nuns established in Bendigo in 1821 to teach students, to the beautiful schools we have now. We are grateful to parishioners and community members that had the vision to see a future for Catholic Education and persist in times of adversity in establishing our schools. Yesterday morning, our school leaders presented a beautiful liturgy about the history of Catholic Education Sandhurst and our school. We hope to show parts of it again at the centenary celebrations in November. Cross Country - Thank you to Mrs Watson and everyone who was able to help or came along and supported our students on Friday. From all accounts it was a great day and it was lovely to have parents back in the school. Mother’s Day Stall - If your child missed out on the Mother’s Day stall today, students are able to bring $4 and purchase a gift from the front office up until Friday. CDF pay is no longer taking money for the Mother’s Day gifts. Life Ed and Bravehearts - Today we had incursions from Bravehearts for Foundation to Year 2 and Life Ed for the whole school. Please take time to talk to your child about what they have learnt from these important education sessions. Special Lunch on Friday - To celebrate Catholic Education Week, this Friday there will be a free hot dog and Zooper Dooper for all students. If your child would prefer not to participate they are welcome to bring their own lunch. Mother’s Day Pampering - On Friday, we will be hosting our traditional Mother’s Day Pampering afternoon. The afternoon will begin at 2:20pm with a special Mother’s Day Liturgy in the Mercy Centre and at the conclusion of this you will be welcome to visit the pampering activities in each of the classrooms for the remainder the school day. Parents are welcome to take their child home from the Pampering Afternoon, but you must notify your child’s home room teacher. Bluearth Fundraiser - Yesterday our Bluearth Coach, Jimmy Ivill shared the great news that from the Bluearth Golf Day, our school will be receiving $4,600 to go towards funding the Bluearth Program here at St John’s. Thank you Jimmy Ivill and everyone who was able to support the day, we are grateful. Principal Advertisement - At the end of this year, I will complete my contract as Principal and next year I hope to return to a classroom teaching position. Therefore, this weekend the Principal position will be advertised nationwide, along with 8 other Principal vacancies across the Sandhurst Diocese. There will be a letter from Catholic Education Sandhurst, coming home to families before the end of the week regarding this. ARTC & Euroa Gazette - Last week the Euroa Gazette published an article about our school crossing and encouraging drivers to slow down. In the article, it correctly mentions that we are concerned about the speed of cars coming down the proposed rail overpass. However, it also incorrectly stated that the school’s preferred option would be a rail crossing. St John’s School is yet to meet with the ARTC and discuss options. Therefore, St John’s does not have a preferred option yet, but we will support the option that is the safest for our community. The Euroa Gazette will be printing a correction about this in tomorrow’s paper. During Catholic Education Week, we give thanks for 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia and look forward with hope and faith in our future. Central to our Sandhurst schools is our Catholic Faith as we live out the mission of the church, we nurture the best within one another and reflect the values embodied within the Gospels. ‘I have come that you may have life and have it to the full!’ Jn 10: 10 Loving Creator, As people of gratitude and hope, we celebrate our rich history, giving thanks for 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia.
