NZSO-RNZ Concert-SOUNZ Recordings
The works selected for the 2016 NZSO-RNZ Concert-SOUNZ Recordings project were rehearsed and recorded at Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre in the week beginning 8 February. Each work was performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hamish McKeich, and recorded by Radio New Zealand Concert to create up to 60 minutes of high quality NZ orchestral recordings.

The works of Salina Fisher, Brad Jenkins, Patrick Shepherd, Alex Taylor and James Wade were recorded this year.

You can see an album of photos taken during the rehearsals and concert on SOUNZnz Facebook page.

Graded Chamber Music Works
This year SOUNZ has put together graded repertoire lists for string and piano groups for the first time. Graded by experienced teachers, the lists include comments about each work, so it is easy to see which pieces would best suit a group’s experience level. Most of the works have score and audio samples available on our website and all are available for purchase from SOUNZ.

We have also recently updated our Teachers page, which now includes new repertoire lists for Solo Instrument and Electronics and Taonga Puoro and Western Instruments.

Body Music 2015

Body Music 2015 — Jack Body Cross-Cultural Music Conference
After the passing of Jack Body in May 2015, many composers were left contemplating the indelible impact that he had on their lives. Jack’s legacy of intercultural exchange was, for many, a turning point in their lives and careers.

In December 2015 an international conference dedicated to the life and work of Jack Body was held in Hangzhou, China. Body Music 2015 was the brainchild of Shen Nalin, a former PhD student of Jack’s. It attracted a remarkably wide range of composers, performers and scholars from throughout the world, united by a shared interest in the musical and cultural legacy of Jack Body. Go to SOUNZ online to read a conference report by Michael Norris.
