Update on SSC Expression of Interest

Stage 2 of the EOI process is now completed and 32 projects are selected to move to Stage 3 – Contract Development. The range of projects are quite diverse include specialty areas such as Geriatrics, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology & Metabolism and Nephrology, to name a few. The SSC thanks all physicians who participated; the level of interest in the EOI Initiative signals your strong desire to improve patient care with innovative and quality-focused ideas.

The next step is to meet with the approved applicants in June and July to refine project plans and determine appropriate fund-holders. In addition, an evaluation framework is being developed that will identify common indicators for success. For more information, please contact Laura Anderson at landerson@doctorsofbc.ca

FH team keeps a focus on quality improvement

It’s no surprise that it is important to keep a laser-focus on quality and safety to ensure patient care is maintained and enhanced. This is what the Fraser Health (FH) physicians are doing through their Physician Quality and Regional Safety Team (PQRST).

The PQRST is a joint project of the Specialist Services Committee (SSC), Fraser Health and the physicians who work in FH. The idea to establish a formal PQRST came from the late Dr. Jan Kornder, former Medical Director – Quality and Patient Safety.

Better data leads to improved access

When we think of health care – data is not the first thing that comes to mind. However, many physicians would likely agree that data is integral to evaluating and improving the delivery of health care.

Specifically, how long patients wait to see a specialist from the time they are referred by a GP or other physician has not been easily tracked. There is anecdotal information and surveys of specialists, but limited ability to accurately track and measure wait times for specialist office consultations in an integrated and patient focused way.
