Public hearing to examine renewable energy access for apartment residents

The Legislative Assembly Environment and Planning Committee will hold a public hearing as part of its inquiry into renewable and affordable energy for apartments on Thursday 30 April 2026.

The inquiry is examining the barriers and inequities faced by apartment residents in accessing renewable and affordable energy, as well as options to improve access for people living in multi‑unit developments.

The uptake of residential solar systems in Victoria has primarily been confined to detached housing, typically inhabited by older owner-occupiers with higher incomes.

The hearing will be broadcast live from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and feature a series of expert panels, including representatives from government departments, sustainable built environment groups, renewable energy consultancies and local government.

The hearing will also feature witnesses representing strata lawyers, tenants, social housing groups, financial counselling services, the electrical sector and embedded network operators.

The full schedule of witnesses is available on the Committee’s website.

Issued: 28 April 2026
