Te Nama o te wiki (Number of the week) National guest nights this January had a modest increase of 1.1 percent on January 2016, Stats NZ said this week. International guest nights hit a record 2 million, up 6.9 percent on January 2016. This rise offset the drop in domestic guest nights, which fell 2.7 percent. Kei te mōhio rānei koe? (Did you know?) Today, the mother-of-two runs a relatively new business, Black Label Experience, which is offering bespoke, unique New Zealand experiences for the global elite. Tourism New Zealand's four year strategy for FY18 - FY21 Tourism New Zealand has released its new strategy for the next four years with greater focus on increasing international tourism in the regions and shoulder seasons and working with partners to improve experiences for visitors and Kiwis. Tourism New Zealand’s acting chief executive Brighid Kelly said with tourism visitors now at 3.5m a year, spending at $14.5b and the industry the biggest export earner in the country, it is a successful time for the sector. “The new four-year strategy for Tourism New Zealand recognises that success, so makes only slight changes in our direction,” said Ms Kelly. The strategy has a mission – To boost New Zealand’s economy by growing the value of international visitors. Green Ribbon Awards - Apply Now The annual Green Ribbon Awards recognise outstanding contributions by individuals, communities and organisations to protect and manage New Zealand’s environment. There are ten awards categories recognising a diverse range of contributions to the environment. Entries can come from all walks of New Zealand, from individuals, community groups, councils and Iwi right through to large corporations. Tourism Growth Partnership placed on hold The Tourism Growth Partnership (TGP) has been placed on hold while Tourism Minister Paula Bennett assesses funding priorities for the wider tourism portfolio. After a period of strong growth in the sector, it is important to ensure government support is appropriately directed to priority areas, such as infrastructure.
