EQUESTRIAN VICTORIA NEWS July / August 2017
FROM THE CEO
The highlight of July was undoubtedly the 2017 Equestrian Victoria Sport Achievement Awards. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet with so many of you, all looking spectacular and celebrating the achievements of our fellow sports men and women and honouring our tireless volunteers.
The depth of talent in our state is amazing, and so too is our history. This history was celebrated at the Awards this year through the induction of some of our sport’s legends into the Equestrian Victoria Hall of Fame: Barry Roycroft AM, Malcolm Ansell, Art Uytendaall and David Ross. It is so important to take the time to look back on the contribution these people have made in shaping our sport and establishing such strong foundations. Our new membership year has now commenced, and we look forward to delivering great services, events and value to our members throughout the year. The new Show Horse and Preliminary Dressage memberships are now active, and we look forward to our new members in these categories getting out to competitions. Pony
dressage has really taken off in the past few years, so Show Horse Victoria is offering a number of official measuring days open to all our members throughout the year. The first of these will be held in conjunction with the Winter Show at Werribee on the 13th of August – contact the office for more information. Remember – if you have any horse that is not competing, but you would like to secure their name, ownership details and microchip number for breeding, identity and biosecurity purposes, we have our new Base Horse Registration
available for only $40 for life! We have an exciting calendar of major events in the next few months, including the Pryde's EasiFeed Australian Showjumping Championships in September, Martin Collins 2017 Australian Dressage Championships presented by Boneo Park in October, the Friends of Werribee Horse Trials, the Werribee Pony Club Horse Trials and the Spring Horse Trials, plus the Pryde's EasiFeed Dressage Festival in December. You can read about some of these fabulous events further along in this newsletter. Until next month, safe riding. Fiona Baxter

TD and CD seminar
The EV Eventing sub committee held the annual TD and CD seminar on Saturday which was extremely well attended. Roger Kane and Ewan Kellett did an excellent job at presenting the seminar and we are so fortunate that they are happy to share their knowledge and insight. There was opportunity to learn and discuss the role of officials, the importance of team work, risk management and course design in the morning when we were indoors at Quest in Werribee. In the afternoon we moved out to Werribee Park to walk a small course set up by Ewan where we discussed and learnt about distances, dimensions, mim clips, safety devices and much more. I do hope that some of the people that attended will move onto become officials as it was such a great group of
people who are obviously invested in the wonderful sport of eventing. Thank you to Judy Croagh for organising this opportunity. Janet Houghton
