8th Annual Hannig Cup

This is the 8th annual Hannig Cup that we have celebrated and by any standards the team efforts of Sequoia and Ted Hannig knocked it out of the park!.

We had 52 boats that raced and each boat raised $100 for Youth Sailing. This is tremendous team work by all of you.

We had over 200 attendees and dinners - just outstanding. The energy in the room was incredible.

The Sea Scouts, who prepared and served the food,  were awesome and I know the whole Sea Scout team were working long hours to get ready for a fantastic turnout. Special thanks to the Sea Scouts!

We were privileged to have the Mayor of Redwood City, Alicia C. Aguirre, attended the event. She recognized the efforts of Sequoia and also Ted Hannig in raising money for youth sailing and related activities and also recognized  the enormous energy that Sequoia YC demonstrates to all.

We had Latitudes 38 present for the race and the evening and we look forward to their commentary and pictures.

The two trophies for the evening were as follows :

The racing trophy was won by the slowest but best boat on the water. Two of our newest lady members Patricia Corcoran and Olivia Sadlowski were accompanied by Tom Keegan on one of our Santana's  and won handsomely !

The other hotly contested trophy of the evening (monies raised) was won by Alex and Penelope  Huang. The winning is good but the combo of Alex plus Penelope and the alternative team of Larry and Robin Mayne raised $12,000 on the evening!! By any standards - fantastic! Thank you all!

Ted's extraordinary efforts raised a huge contribution to PYSF and Molly Vanderbilt  was  there with some of her PYSF team members to both thank Ted and also explain eloquently just what this contribution does for youth sailing. You guessed it - this just transforms what the program can offer.

Ted Hannig distributed over $1.5 million at the 8th Annual Hannig Cup. This is a tremendous testament to all of you. We presented a recognition check to the Mayor Aguirra  to celebrate this achievement.

We also had the privilege of hearing about the $1,000,000 plus contribution Ted and his efforts have raised for Floating Doctors - an organization that  specializes in supporting the medical needs of coastal communities. This tribute from Ted and his sponsors was very special! Sky LeBrot and Noah Hess were there to give their thanks to Ted.

What I recognized most was the extraordinary Sequoia spirit - we had record turnouts, enthusiasm, energy and fantastic volunteer effort to make this all happen.

My special thanks to Rick Dalton who has led a great Beer Can season by any standards and personally went out of his way to ensure a successful Hannig Cup

My sincere thanks to all who made his happen - to Larry Mayne, Dan Lockwood, Winston Bumpus, Rick and Petra Gilmore, Leslie and Jim Fish,  Nick and Robin Weber, Joanne, Ann McDonough, Theresa Howard, Bar Houston and many others who I may have missed.

We have a marvelous club - let's continue this passion!
