St John's School Newsletter Term 3 Week 5 St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Families, Anderson St Crossing - Last week we were delighted to receive a phone call from the Shire of Strathbogie informing us that works on the Anderson St school crossing will begin soon. The proposed works will re-align the crossing, provide the disabled/pram access on the west side and improve the exit from the school onto the crossing. These improvements will make the crossing safer for our students and families. We are grateful to the Shire of Strathbogie for their continued support of our school. Return of iPads and chargers - If your child is in Foundation to Year 4, could parents please make sure that your child’s iPad and charger is returned to school after this recent lockdown. Return clothes - From time to time we use our spare clothes to change students who have had an accident in the yard. If your child has come home in our spare clothes could you, please wash them and return them to school. Our supplies are becoming depleted and we rely on these clothes when children have accidents. Thank you to the parents who have already returned clothes – especially after last week when we had lots of children fall over in the mud! Lunch Orders - Unfortunately, due to the sudden re-opening of Regional Victoria Lunch Orders WILL NOT be available this week. School restrictions - Now that we are open again, we need to be vigilant about following these safety precautions- · No parents will be allowed on site. If you need to speak with a staff member, please phone the school or send an email. · Parents/Carer’s must wear masks and practise social distancing when dropping off and collecting their child - please wait in or near your car for your child at the end of the school day. · Sick children must not attend school, if they have any COVID like symptoms, they will need a COVID test before returning to school. A copy of the negative result will need to be emailed to myself, principal@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au before your child can return to school. · At this stage, there will be no school assemblies. Thanks again everyone for your continued support. Under our own Southern Cross Mary stands as a model for all. The eldest of eight children, Melbourne-born Mary knew hardship and poverty. Her charity began at home and her childhood piety blossomed into a faith based on action. This care and responsibility for others, the desire to provide better circumstances for the impoverished, fuelled her life's work as teacher and leader, consoler and companion. Like Jesus she walked with the poor and weak, those on the fringes of society, the unlettered, unfed and unloved. Mary was humble and tough, practical, prayerful and persistent. She was a hands-on, sleeves-rolled up, no-nonsense pioneer holy woman who believed in doing what she could for those who couldn't. St Mary of the Cross is an Australian hero. Jesus tells us in the Gospel not to worry about the ordinary things; what we wear, what we eat, where we live. Trust in God because God loves us more than we can possibly know. Matthew 6: 34 Do not worry about tomorrow: your holy Father knows your needs ‘Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on his righteousness, and all these other things will be given you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’ Holy God, source of all goodness, you showed us in Mary Mackillop, a woman of faith who lived by the power of the cross. Teach us to embrace what she pioneered: New ways of living the gospel that respect and defend the human dignity of all in our land. We pray in thanksgiving for the life of Mary Mackillop and her influence in our lives. We pray for all those who have been influenced by Mary to work for the common good. We pray to have the respect for the marginalised and abandoned that Mary Mackillop showed in her living. Click on the Sandpiper Logo to view the latest publication Lunch orders are on Wednesdays!
