April 2016

With April here, we are eagerly awaiting spring and all it brings – warmer days, colourful gardens and more opportunities to get outdoors. As we spend time enjoying leisure activities, seeing our kids off to school and heading off to work ourselves, we become more aware of our surroundings and our environment. One of the key features of our environment is the quality of the air we breath.

Cleaner, more breathable air is part and parcel with reversing climate change. At Emterra, we will continue through 2016 and beyond to invest in economically and environmentally sustainable compressed nature gas fleets and fuelling infrastructure. So far, we have converted 35 per cent of our entire fleet of collection trucks to CNG-powered vehicles that reduce emissions by up to 20 per cent compared to diesel trucks.

In Winnipeg for example, in just five years, we have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 10,000 tonnes. That’s like taking 2,100 vehicles off the road for a year. Between now and 2019, Emterra will help Winnipeg achieve nearly 20 per cent of its greenhouse gas emission reduction target. CNG powered vehicles also run more quietly, reducing noise pollution in our neighbourhoods by 90 per cent.

At Emterra, we’ll keep pushing ourselves because we know that by doing so, we are contributing to more liveable communities and a more competitive Canadian economy now and into the future.

I hope you enjoy this first issue of Terra Notes in 2016, the year of our 40th Anniversary, and as always, we welcome you questions and comments.

Happy Spring,
Emmie
