JUNIPER Consortium Newsletter
September 2021

Dear friends and associates of JUNIPER,

Welcome to this months edition of the JUNIPER consortium's newsletter. We've had a little break from the newsletter over the summer, but we are now back to our monthly updates on the past, current and future activities of the consortium. Last month Dr Jon Read (University of Lancaster) and Dr Gwen Knight jointly gave the monthly JUNIPER seminar at INI on nosocomial infections in the UK during the first Pandemic wave. If you missed it you can watch the talk here.

MONTHLY SEMINAR SERIES AT ISSAC NEWTON INSTITUTE

Speaker: Dr Petra Klepac (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine)
Title:
Contacts in context: large-scale setting-specific social mixing matrices from the BBC Pandemic project
Abstract: The BBC Pandemic project was a massive citizen science project that took place n 2018 and collected self-reported contact data from over 36,000 volunteers. In this talk I will outline fine-scale age-specific population contact matrices by context (home, work, school, other) and type (conversational or physical) of contact that took place generated from this rich dataset. I will also outline the ways in which these matrices have been vital in understanding the potential impacts of non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as contact tracing and physical distancing, to control the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Date: 11th October 12:00pm-1:00pm (BST)
