Dear Members and Friends,

The Special Rapporteur is seeking input on a study on the rights of persons with disabilities to social protection. The results will be presented to the UN General Assembly in October 2015.

Social protection programmes can have significant impact in providing supports to persons with disabilities. Social protection programs can include: disability grants, social insurance, poverty reduction measures etc. However, if people with intellectual disabilities and their families are not covered under social protection programmes or the programmes aren’t understood or accessible, people with intellectual disabilities and their families could be missing out.

This important and influential study is a critical opportunity to ensure the perspective of people with intellectual disabilities and their families are included in the study.

The Special Rapporteur is seeking your input on 5 key questions. (See: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/Issues/Disability/SRDisabilities/Pages/SocialProtection.aspx)

Submissions should be sent to the Special Rapporteur, sr.disability@ohchr.org, no later than 20 May, 2015. If you have any questions or would like help with your submission, please contact Anna MacQuarrie, amacquarrie@inclusion-international.org.

We urge all of our members and partners to take part in this important opportunity.
