COACH OF THE YEAR | Liesl Wilding

Congratulations Liesl Wilding, an EA Level 2 Dressage Coach and SSTA, who lives in Mount Helena, Western Australia.

"I started riding at a very young age on the family farm, which is 100km east of Perth. All the stock work was done on horseback, so I spent many hours in the saddle behind sheep and cattle with my dad. My mum wouldn’t have anything to do with horses, she tried her hardest to put me off them.

When I was about 11 years old, I started going to pony club. I had two ponies which I competed on in show jumping and in the Prince Phillip games. I rode ponies for other people in the breeding and show horse ring at many Royal Shows.

After school, I went to agricultural college and had a couple of horses I evented on. My passion for riding led me back to working in the equestrian industry. I worked on thoroughbred studs, then started breaking in and training horses and coaching.

WOOROLOO LEADER EQUINE CCN (22-23 AUGUST)

A bumper entry of over 350 combinations will descend on Wooroloo Prison Farm for the Wooroloo Leader Equine CCN (22-23 August). Held on the prison grounds by kind permission of the Department of Corrective Services, the volunteer committee of Perth Horse Trials Association have worked incredibly hard to pull together a COVID-safe event in a short time frame. Despite the tough economic climate, the organising team are keen to thank the many generous sponsors that have come forward to ensure the financial viability of the event.

Leader Equine’s generous title sponsorship includes the provision of stylish Horseware Australia rugs to all class winners. Leader Equine, the leaders in horse care and wear, is a proudly Australian owned company that distributes leading global equestrian brands including Horseware Ireland, PS of Sweden, TRM Supplements & Epona Grooming Products. Off the Track WA have also provided welcome sponsorship to enable the provision of dedicated classes for off the track horses at both EvA80 and EvA95 levels.

The event will be signed from Gt Eastern Highway, approximately 8km from Chidlow. For further updates, please follow Perth Horse Trials Association on Facebook.

UPCOMING EVENTS

With the latest easing of restrictions in Phase 4 by the WA Government, we have now reviewed and updated the following documents to support the gradual restart of the equestrian activities in WA.

We all want to get back to normal life as soon as possible. Ensuring our members, their friends and families remain safe and prepared is critical to achieving this.

One of the ways we can all play our part is to get the Australian Government's COVIDSafe app. While downloading the app is entirely voluntary, it has been highly recommended by both the Australian and WA Governments to assist our health professionals and help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Equestrian WA is encouraging all members to consider downloading the app to help keep our community safer.

EWA gratefully acknowledges the support of the Department of Sport and LotteryWest.
