Tourism to the Max - The Future of Tourism in Western Adelaide

How will the new South Australian Visitor Economy Sector Plan 2030 impact Western Region tourism businesses?

Tourism to the Max will be an opportunity for visitor businesses to unpack these questions and more.

Rodney Harrex, chief executive of the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC),  will provide insights into the state's perspective, their current focus and activities.

James Podsiadly, former Crows and Gelong player, will share his vision to take the Australian footy experience to the next level by designing AFL Max. James will take you on his 3-year journey from concept through to design, their growth plans and links to other local and regional businesses.

Ali Uren of kiikstart, will lead you through:

  • the role of innovation and creativity to remain competitive and grow
  • Designing and building a business than attracts and develops the brightest talent
  • How to build a business best positioned to respond to change

From the Tin Shed to the Big Shed 

From the Tin Shed to the Big Shed offers you a unique experience to enjoy Big Shed's new premises and learn about Craig and Jason's growth story.

From brewing in Jason's shed in a rented property in 2002 to their first commercial setup in Royal Park the crafty duo's new project, assisted by the state government is estimated at $2.5 million.

Joining Big Shed will be Peter Cox from Gelista. Peter will share his story of starting his company to make the best gelato and ice-cream he could and of their extraordinary growth to become one of the leading brands of luxury gelato in Australia.

At this event you will have the opportunity to learn how to access support to grow your business and the services that we can provide.

This month has seen a number of our businesses awarded for their outstanding achievement and commitment.

Estia judged BEST Greek Restaurant in Australia 2019

A fantastic achievement by Estia at Henley Beach winning best Greek Restaurant at the Restaurant and Catering Australia Awards for Excellence.

With the strong and competitive field it is testament to their hard work and excellence in being recognised in the hospitality industry as the best that Australia has to offer.

SA Tourism Awards 

Congratulations go to Adelaide Luxury Beach House who won Bronze in the Deluxe Accommodation and Atura Hotel Adelaide Airport who also won Bronze in the New Tourism Business Category at the 2019 South Australian Tourism Awards.

A fantastic achievement and testament to two businesses demonstrating excellence and innovation throughout the year.

Last month saw Enzo's proudly celebrate their 20th anniversary. 

From their humble beginnings at their trattoria style Italian restaurant further down Port Road, they can now be found serving authentic Italian food in the heart of Hindmarsh. This family business is always welcoming and has developed a reputation for excellent food and service winning numerous awards.

We have a number of grants that can assist your business.
The Charles Sturt Funding Finder is a localised one stop shop grant finding service for business and the community. Registration at charlessturt.grantguru.com.au will ensure that you are kept informed when new grants come online or change.

Main Street Trader Support 

This funds business associations and small groups of businesses.
It supports programs and activities that contribute to the activation and development of main streets and retail.
We can fund: 

  • marketing campaigns and materials
  • website and social media promoting the precinct
  • community activations and events
  • participation in major festivals such as SALA and Guitars in Bars
  • precinct improvements such as planter boxes, public art, temporary lighting and wayfinding signage

Place Makers Business Attraction and Improvement Fund (BAIF)

The BAIF helps small business and property owners revitalise their precincts. We can fund:

Facade improvements - up to 50% of project costs up to a maximum of $3000

Fit-out - up to 50% of project costs to a maximum of $5000 for new businesses seeking to establish or relocate within a retail precinct in the City of Charles Sturt
