Outdoor Recreation Symposium
Set aside October 27 - 29 for the bi annual QORF hosted Outdoor Recreation Symposium to be held in conjunction with the annual Outdoor Recreation Awards, Friday October 28.

In early 2016, QORF undertook a survey of its members, to help us better understand the needs and assist the Queensland outdoor community. A summary of the results is now available.
Survey Summary
The annual Outdoor Recreation Awards are now open for nominations. The Awards have been updated so please read the Awards Criteria page carefully before selecting the appropriate award for your nominee.
Life Membership is the highest honour QORF can bestow, and Life Members will be held in the highest esteem.
There have been five Life Members in our 20 year history. Over the next five months, we will profile one QORF Life Member in each eNewsletter.
First up is Rob Simson, who celebrated his 80th birthday on Thursday 26th May 2016. Congratulations Rob.

After only five months, Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) has accredited their 100th coach after the completion of the Level 0 Skills Coach Course in Canberra. The program, which is part of the National Accredited Coaching Scheme, is the 15th course to have been run across Australia since January 2016.

Nature Play QLD recently launched a new app designed for parents/carers of children 0 – 3 years old, the important formative years of a child’s life. GROW with Nature Play is a practical play app featuring things-to-do, tips, and hints about how and why playing in nature can benefit your baby. The app which is available on both the iTunes and Google app stores allows parents to plan age appropriate play lists that can help 'GROW' their children.
QORF and the other state outdoor bodies are working together to develop a new set of Australian Adventure Activity Standards (AAAS). Queensland is well represented with Peter McKenna and Phil Harrison on the Common Content Working Group, and Gavin Dale from Bushwalking QLD part of the bushwalking working group. Draft versions of the new AAAS will be available for comment and feedback before final publishing.

The Queensland Government is currently reviewing the South East Queensland regional plan, and is calling for ideas to ensure the plan reflects the values and needs of the community. By ensuring that the outdoor sector’s voice is heard in this process, we can encourage the government to preserve the good things and address issues that affect outdoor recreation and outdoor education.

QFSR Skills Alliance is currently delivering a number of Community Work Skills Projects across Queensland including the Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and Rockhampton/Yeppoon. These projects involve groups of 15 trainees undertaking paid work and formal training through a Certificate I in Construction traineeship. QFSR Skills Alliance trainees are working on refurbishing sport and recreation club facilities, local council facilities, parks and recreation spaces, and vegetation management. MORE INFORMATION
