COVID-19 Updates

Thursday brings record high 1,198 new coronavirus cases to Utah

Salt Lake Tribune - With the new record high number of new coronavirus cases reported on Thursday, Utah’s rate of new diagnoses continued to skyrocket, along with hospitalizations.

In Case You Missed It: Ask Me Anything About COVID-19

Panel moderator Ben Winslow of Fox 13 Utah was joined by Dr. Todd Vento – Medical Director, Infectious Diseases for Intermountain Healthcare; Dr. Andrew Pavia – Chief, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, University of  Utah; State Representatives Dr. Suzanne Harrison and Dr. Ray Ward, Dr. José E. Rodríguez – Associate Vice President for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (HEDI) at University of Utah Health; and Nubia Peña, Director of Utah Division of Multicultural Affair.

Questions for the panelists were submitted by those attending the webinar ahead of time. Panelists tackled many common and difficult questions such as:

    • Does blood type (i.e., Type A) increase risk for more serious COVID-19 disease progression?
    • Do I need to get my kids and family tested every time my kids come home from school with cold symptoms?
    • Is it safe to go to the doctor? What can I do to protect myself when I have to go?
    • Will we ever go back to “normal”? That is, not having to social distance, masks, etc.
