Message from our National Director - Steve Bailey

Simplicity - The other day I was sitting down at Yallingup praying for the surf community, it was a beautiful spring day with some nice 3-4 foot waves rolling in at main break. It was over populated by long-boards when a pod of dolphins turn up and joined in catching a few waves themselves. They were riding waves for over 100m, throwing in airs that surfers only dream about. Then a long-boarder took off and started trimming across the face of the wave in which he rode in. When he walked past me, I could see a beam on his face that said ‘I have just had the wave of my life’. The joy of a wave can take on a different perspective. Here I am thinking about riding a wave with the simplicity of trimming along the face of a wave and getting stoked like this guy. Then my thoughts drifted to the cross, the Lord convicted me about how we can complicate the simple things in life. Just like we can have different expectations from a wave, we can have different expectations of following Jesus. But Jesus graciously brings us back to the simplicity of the cross and how it bridges the gap so we could be in relationship with the Father.

If you are feeling bogged down in you journey with Jesus, I encourage you to look at the cross, be still and ponder the amazing sacrifice Jesus made for us. Take time and ask the Lord to refresh, renew and restore you - Rejoice Always ...
God Bless
Steve B

Q&A with Nathan Reid - Zeek Studios

This edition, we sat down with a good friend of CSA & had a chat with Nathan Reid. Nathan is one of the guys who you won't see, but his work is seen by all. Yes, Nath is a Master Jedi of web design group - Zeek Studios. He oversees the CSA, Surf Chaplaincy, Jesus Pro Am & Compond websites for CSA, yes, he is 'The Man'!!!!

What does surfing mean for you personally?
Everything else seems to get quieter the closer I get to the water. For me it’s being able to switch off from everything and paddle out for some quiet time with God and mates, and of course, getting barrelled :)

Mercy Huts Surf Retreat

Mercy Huts was established in January 2012 when Matt & Nat Thistlewaite teamed up with Sally & Paul McMahon. They shared a mutual desire to empower people living in poverty in remote Indonesia. In 2010 they were personally impacted whilst visiting communities in East Indonesia. This region is the most severely affected by poverty and has the highest malnutrition and infant mortality rates in all of Indonesia. Locals live on less than US$1 per day.

Today, they run Mercy Huts Surf Retreat. It exist to benefit local people living in poverty in Indonesia through the provision of education, employment and financial aid. This is enabled by the development of beachfront retreats for holiday-makers that give back to the local community. The first of these will be located in Rote Island, Indonesia.
