Martha's Message

Dear Parents,

We hope you are on the road to recovery from whatever damage your homes may have endured during the storm. The school had just a few minor bruises but overall did pretty well. Hopefully, this is the last storm of the season. We built in a few extra days into the 2016-2017 school calendar, so we won’t have to make up any missed days at this point. It seems like our communication system worked effectively. If you did not get our parent alert messages on your cell phone, please call the school, so we can check to make sure you are in the system properly.

Our sixth graders are having a wonderful time at Earthshine Camp in North Carolina. They are due to return tomorrow, and I’m sure they will have many stories to tell. This is a great annual event that is really a culmination of the many years the children have been together. Along with zip lines, high ropes, mountain trails, and some really good food, the time they spend together is the highlight of their trip. I do believe the friendships the children make through sixth grade at BES last a lifetime.

Be sure you mark your calendars for the traditional Costume Parade on Friday, October 28th. Please refrain from extra scary or bloody costumes out of respect for our younger children.
After the parade, the children will return to their classrooms for a fun fall harvest party, then have early dismissal at 11:30am. There is no school on Monday, October 31st as it is our fall holiday. Extended Day is not available either of those days.

Fondly,
Martha

BES Students Benefit from Your Contributions to the Starfish Fund - Sweet Frog Party Incentive for 100% Class Participation!

The Beaches Episcopal School Starfish Fund Annual Giving Campaign officially began on October 1st and will run through December 31, 2016. You can return the pledge card mailed to every family, or if you prefer, you may also donate online.

This year's Starfish Fund will be used responsibly for...

  • professional development
  • technology upgrades
  • classroom supplies
  • enhanced curriculum
  • facility improvements

Our goal this year is $65,000 and 100% participation from our families. We have already recieved 100% participation from our Board of Trustees, Vestry, Faculty and Staff.  To “sweeten” the incentive, Martha Milton has agreed to take each homebase class who reaches 100% parent participation during the campaign to Sweet Frog for an ice cream party!

1952 Founders Society:

This year, Beaches Episcopal School has established the 1952 Founders Society in honor of the founding date of our school.  All families and individuals who pledge or give $1,952 and beyond will be invited to a reception in thanksgiving for their support as well as two tickets to our Parent Social held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at The Atlantic Beach Country Club.

Athletics Update

Basketball

Monday night our JV Basketball team played against JCDS.  The team has shown such improvement over the last couple of weeks and we looked great on the court.  These kids enjoy being on the court and put forth a lot of effort.  I am proud of this group of boys.

The girls’ team is off this week due to our 6th graders being at Earthshine.  We will resume next week.

There will be Saturday practice this weekend.  JV boys will be from 9:00am to 10:00am and the Girls from 10:00am to 11:00am on our BES court.

Go Rays!

Support BES by Clipping Box Tops for Education During Fall Drive

The 2016 Box Tops Fall Drive is underway and off to a great start!  We have three weeks left to collect and bring in your Box Tops.  With school being out last week and many of our families getting back, we are going to combine the totals for the first two weeks for the class contest.

Currently, Ms. Hartman's class is a head for weeks 1 and 2 for the Box Top Challenge!

The final day to turn in Box Tops for the Fall drive will be Fri, Oct. 28th. Box Tops must be put in a zip-lock bag and identified with the student and teacher name. Information can be written on the bag or the form below can be completed and inserted in the bag. Box Tops can be turned into your teacher or put in a collection box located at the front desk at McCormick and Stormes Hall.
