Social Notes from Vice Commodore Dan...

One of my favorite spots on the coast is Ano Nuevo State Preserve with its colony of Elephant Seals.  You can take a hike and join a tour by the beach to watch some large, noisy beasts undulating across the sand, making loud grunting noises, chest bumping each other and working hard trying to impress their peers.  It is truly a sight to behold and very worthy of a trip out there…

I don’t know why that day trip comes to mind but we are having our Past Commodores Dinner on Saturday June 7th.   Please consider coming to this evening of strutting, joking, storytelling and truth-stretching.  There will be a delicious dinner served and one of these luminaries will be awarded a coveted trophy for best story told.

On June 13th will be having a General Meeting and Drop In Dinner.  I invite you all to come hear what’s going on in your club, meet some of the large group of new members having second readings and enjoy our theme of summer B-B-Q.

Our next Wednesday lunch is June 18th. Beer Can Races and dinners continue every Wednesday throughout this month.

Looming on the horizon like a bull Elephant Seal is the Fourth of July weekend.  We have a number of activities planned.  On July 4th, Sequoia will have a float in the Redwood City Fourth of July parade, a lunch and all-day celebration at the club and, with a super-quick changeover, play host to the prestigious  Westpoint regatta on July 5th.  There is a huge opportunity here to plug into a volunteer position to help out.  Please let me or Kathy Harris know if you have an interest in participating.

I hope you all a having a great Summer.  See you around the club.

Past Commodores' Dinner

There is still room for you at the  Past Commodores’ Dinner for this Saturday, June 7.  This is always a great evening and I look forward to all of you joining if you can.  This event is for all members, not just past commodores. The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., and we will have the same format as in previous years.  After dinner, we will enjoy hilarious and interesting stories from past commodores during their year. They actually compete to see who will tell the best stories and will be judged by our own Rear Commodore Rick Gilmore.

The menu will be prepared by Steve Higgs, who is a SYC member and a fabulous chef.  You will be served a gourmet sit-down dinner (for non-past commodores $25 per person).  It will be great!

                Classic Caesar Salad
Entrée choice of   Salmon or Steak
Roasted garlic whipped potatoes and grilled asparagus
                Peach Cobbler with Ice Cream

Please RSVP with your choice of entrée if you haven’t already by tonight by 5pm.  You may respond by calling me (I'm in the roster) or emailing me by clicking here.

Hope to see you there,

WNBCR Recap

We are already a month into the restarted Wednesday Night Beer Can Racing (WNBCR) schedule.  Here are the results to date:

5/7 - Course 2 - winner is Magic .
There were 16 boats in the PHRF fleet. It was rather fitting that one of the first boats to provide assistance to Bella lead the fleet home on our restart week.

5/14 - Course 4 - John Graves on Metridium came in first.
17 PHRF boats, 8 Merits and 4 cats competed on Island Style night.
Odyssey lead the fleet with the most Hawaiian shirts and best music.  An incredible night on the bay with a fresh, warm breeze  - the course was a bit of a parade with a long single tack out to "S" and a single tack back, but that suited the waterline of Metridium well.  With the wind so warm, and the bay reasonably flat, the F18s decided to run the course twice,

5/21 - Course 7 - John Graves on Metridium scored again for the double-double.
19 PRHF boats and 8 Merits joined in the fray.  L2O as the first boat tracked on RaceQs.  A boat with only two pick-ups won the pick-ups prize, and the furthest person sailing came from the east bay (we can do better!)

5/28 - Course 8 - Mark Millet on Slipstream took the line for the win.
19 PHRF boats, 8 Merits , and 2 Cats raced.  You can watch this one online as 16 of the PHRF boats tracked their course - (click here). All enjoyed another beautiful evening, good breeze, and a course no one could remember ever sailing before.

It's Celebration Time!

Are you having a celebration this month? If so, please send birthdays, anniversaries, or anything else you want announced during the General Meeting for the Good of the Order to Patricia Corcoran. Click here to send her your news.

We have records of your anniversary of joining the Club, but we don’t have records on Anniversaries or Birthdays. Also June is the month of graduations; send Patricia any announcements on the graduations in your family.

We have a lot to celebrate, so send it along and we will celebrate together.
