Dear ,

Re: Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for health care workers

I am writing to inform you about the recent changes to the vaccination requirements announced by the Tasmanian Government that will affect you if you are a practising audiologist.

The Tasmanian Government has made a Public Health Direction to require all health care workers, including audiologists, in medical and health care settings to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This applies to both public and private settings.

This includes health care workers in the following health care settings:

  • Public health settings, including public hospitals, public health clinics and other health services managed by a jurisdiction.
  • Private health facilities, being a private hospital or day procedure centre, or specialist outpatient services.
  • Private provider facilities, such as general practitioners, private nurse offices and consulting offices.
  • Education settings in which health care students are managed to undertake placement, registration, and/or internships in clinical settings.
  • All other settings where health and medical services and treatments are provided.

Health care workers with specific medical conditions may request a COVID-19 vaccination exemption. This will need to be discussed with a GP or Specialist and they will need to complete the vaccination exemption form.

Health care workers in health care settings, excluding residential aged care

Health care workers in all health care settings, excluding residential aged care, need to have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or provide evidence of a booking or completed vaccination exemption form by 31 October 2021.

Health care workers in residential aged care

Health care workers in residential aged care settings, including students on placements, need to have had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, or a vaccination booking, by 17 September 2021, or provide evidence of vaccination intention (i.e. booking for vaccination) or a completed vaccination exemption form.

More information on vaccination for health care workers is available here and more information for health care workers in residential aged care is available here.

Please stay safe, and if there is anything we can do to assist you during this time, please don't hesitate to contact the office on 03 9940 3900 or email: info@audiology.asn.au
