Cultivating Stillness

Day 8: Sitting with stillness

We have now reached Day Eight of our 10 Day Spiritual Journey. Today we explore further our appreciation of stillness.

Stillness has become a luxury. Our lives are busier than ever and our heads full of chatter as we consider the next thing on our To Do list or worry about things that may not happen. How can something as calming and relaxing as stillness be so powerful?

Let us explore together stillness as a pathway to spiritual growth.

Reflect:
Read Mark 6:31–32. Jesus knew what the disciples needed—and he invited them to join him in choosing time away for stillness and rest. When have you made a similar choice? What did you gain from your time in stillness, quiet, or solitude?

Pray:
Pray today by carving out time without words and tasks—even if it is just 5 or 10 minutes. Sit outdoors, go for a walk, relax on the couch—whatever helps you be still. Listen to God and be attentive to his presence.
