Kia Ora ,

This week, the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the addition of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) as a new Platinum partner.

I am personally really delighted to welcome ACC as a partner to our Chamber and look forward to bringing their work and support to the Hutt Valley business community. We know you love your staff and how much you care about them, so we really look forward to working with ACC and bringing you more information and ideas on how you can support your team and business through this partnership.
Let’s make the most of this incredible opportunity. Welcome, ACC, and here’s to a safer future together!

The only requirements are that the pictures are landscape and are of decent quality. Selected photos will not only grace the cover of the Hutt Valley Business Weekly newsletter but will also feature your business logo, offering you a spotlight in our thriving community. Mills Street Stopbank

Te Awa Kairangi (delivering Riverlink) is pleased to announce an upgrade to the stopbank from Melling Link Bridge to just north of Mills Street, enhancing flood protection in the Hutt Valley. Currently safeguarding against a 1 in 65-year flood event, the improved stopbank will be raised by approximately 1.5m, aiming to handle a 1 in 440-year flood event, factoring in future climate change. Construction begins late February, with site setup including an office and necessary fencing, and will conclude by early October 2024. During this period, the Hutt River Trail and certain pathways will be closed, with alternate routes suggested for pedestrians and cyclists. They appreciate your patience during these essential works, aimed at significantly bolstering the community's safety against flooding. Regular updates will be posted on their website and Facebook page.

The following news is provided to keep our business leaders up to date.

Doing business in Europe?  European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence.

New mandatory requirements for corporate due diligence reporting on the environmental and social impacts of certain companies have been agreed by the European Union, and are expected to enter into force following European elections in June 2024

Whilst it appears that the size of business being undertaken in Europe will be a factor for Non EU businesses, New Zealand businesses which trade with or in the EU should begin thinking about how they might map their human rights and environmental risks if required to, and what action they might take if negative impacts were identified as part of a due diligence process.

Speed Reviews | Hutt City Council

Late last year the community was consulted on reducing speed limits around schools in Lower Hutt as part of our Speed Management Plan 2024-2027, to make our roads safer and more accessible for all users.

Council has now approved changes to speed limits around 41 suburban schools, and work to update signage in your area is now underway. Speed limits will change to either fixed (permanent) speed limits of 30 km/hr or variable limits of 30 km/hr that apply during school pick and drop off time. Look out for the new signs in your neighbourhood.

Eastern Hutt Road Slip Works | Update

At Site A, the installation of the catch fence has been successfully completed, and the next phase involves hydroseeding to promote vegetation growth.

Progress at Site B is notable, with shotcrete work advancing and approximately 70m³ of concrete having been delivered to the site thus far.

Traffic monitoring continues, especially as an uptick was observed with the return to work and school routines. Traffic from Stokes Valley, particularly those traveling from Upper Hutt, is being efficiently managed through the use of a traffic light system to ensure smooth vehicular flow.

The project team values the community's patience and understanding as these critical works are carried out.

Low Carbon Acceleration fund

Hutt City Council is launching the Low Carbon Acceleration fund, with the first funding round open between 15 February and 14 March.
Legal entities can apply for 50% co-funding (with a maximum of $40,000) to support projects that will result in emissions reduction in Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai / Lower Hutt.
Council wants to support the city to half its emissions by 2030, and to become net carbon zero by 2050. This will require real innovation and change, and it’s hoped the fund will enable actions that entities wish to make but cost has been a barrier.
