![]() ![]() Mills Street Stopbank Te Awa Kairangi (delivering Riverlink) is pleased to announce an upgrade to the stopbank from Melling Link Bridge to just north of Mills Street, enhancing flood protection in the Hutt Valley. Currently safeguarding against a 1 in 65-year flood event, the improved stopbank will be raised by approximately 1.5m, aiming to handle a 1 in 440-year flood event, factoring in future climate change. Construction begins late February, with site setup including an office and necessary fencing, and will conclude by early October 2024. During this period, the Hutt River Trail and certain pathways will be closed, with alternate routes suggested for pedestrians and cyclists. They appreciate your patience during these essential works, aimed at significantly bolstering the community's safety against flooding. Regular updates will be posted on their website and Facebook page. European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence. ![]() New mandatory requirements for corporate due diligence reporting on the environmental and social impacts of certain companies have been agreed by the European Union, and are expected to enter into force following European elections in June 2024 Whilst it appears that the size of business being undertaken in Europe will be a factor for Non EU businesses, New Zealand businesses which trade with or in the EU should begin thinking about how they might map their human rights and environmental risks if required to, and what action they might take if negative impacts were identified as part of a due diligence process. Budget will be delivered on 30 May ![]() Plans to deliver tax relief to hard-working New Zealanders, rebuild business confidence and restore the Crown’s finances to order will be unveiled on 30 May, Finance Minister Nicola Willis says. The plans will be announced in the Budget which is currently being developed by Ministers. The Government’s Budget priorities will be set out in the Budget Policy Statement which will be delivered on 27 March. ![]()

Eastern Hutt Road Slip Works | Update![]() At Site A, the installation of the catch fence has been successfully completed, and the next phase involves hydroseeding to promote vegetation growth. Progress at Site B is notable, with shotcrete work advancing and approximately 70m³ of concrete having been delivered to the site thus far. Traffic monitoring continues, especially as an uptick was observed with the return to work and school routines. Traffic from Stokes Valley, particularly those traveling from Upper Hutt, is being efficiently managed through the use of a traffic light system to ensure smooth vehicular flow. The project team values the community's patience and understanding as these critical works are carried out. ![]() Low Carbon Acceleration fund![]() Hutt City Council is launching the Low Carbon Acceleration fund, with the first funding round open between 15 February and 14 March. ![]()
