A European first: Global Entrepreneurship Summit

 

Are you an Australian business or entrepreneur and ready to go international with a transformative approach or technology in the field of agriculture, connectivity, energy, health or water? Bring it to pitch at GES 2019!
The Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2019 will be hosted in The Hague this year on the 4th and 5th of June 2019. This is the first time the GES is held in Europe. GES 2019 offers a unique platform for development and the opportunity to showcase your business to top investors, founders, funders, experts and policymakers. This American-Dutch initiative invites businesses to exchange knowledge, expand their network and pitch their ideas. The Global Entrepreneurship Summit is open for applications until the 1st of March.

Waste management seminar in The Hague

On Friday 1 February, a number of Dutch waste management companies got together in The Hague to discuss business opportunities in the Australian waste sector. The seminar, organised by the Consulate-General in cooperation with RVO.nl, included a debriefing by Dutch waste expert Herman Huisman. Mr Huisman visited Australia in October 2018 to discuss current developments in Europe with his Australian counterparts.
Circular Economy, and Waste Management in particular, is a focus area for the Dutch diplomatic missions in Australia. Recently Australia launched its new federal waste policy which aligns with the ambitions the Netherlands has when it comes to Circular Economy.

Parkos has launched in Australia

Parkos, a Dutch start-up, has made its way to Australia. The online parking-at-airports booking platform is now offering its services in Melbourne and Sydney, with other cities to follow. Peter Bosma, co-founder, told the Dutch newspaper ‘Groninger Krant’: ‘’We are seeing a huge demand for safe and affordable parking in Australia. With the launch of Parkos Australia we will meet these demands’’. Parking can be arranged quickly and easily with Parkos, who compare the prices of various car parks around Australian airports. Deloitte listed Parkos as one of the fastest growing technology companies in the Netherlands.

Marion Derckx officially becomes Netherlands Ambassador to Australia

On Wednesday, 13 February 2019, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove received the Letters of Credence from Marion Derckx, the new Netherlands Ambassador to Australia. About her posting in Australia, the Ambassador says; 'Australia and the Netherlands are culturally and politically very close. The Dutch Government has launched a new campaign to prepare businesses for the impending departure of Great Britain from the European Union. Chief Scientist Dr. Alan Finkel visits the Netherlands as part of his European trip

Australian Chief Scientist Dr. Alan Finkel visited the Magnum Power Plant in Eemshaven, a seaport in the northern province of Groningen. The Chief Scientist visited four other European countries as part of the National Hydrogen Roadmap, a intiative to support development of hydrogen industry in Australia. Smart Cities Summit: 'the triple helix' concept

 

On Wednesday 20 February, Consul-General Frank van Beuningen and Senior Economic Officer Nicoline van Cann held a presentation about Dutch smart cities at the Smart Cities Summit in Sydney. The National Smart Cities strategy of the Netherlands is a great example of triple helix cooperation: more than 140 Dutch cities, companies and scientists contribute to it. In the strategy, it specifically states that cities, businesses, research institutes and the federal government will have to work together to contribute to the economic growth, prosperity and quality of life of Dutch cities. This will benefit residents, visitors and businesses alike. Cooperation of government, business, academia and community, the ‘triple’ or even ‘quadriple’ helix, has led to successful & innovative projects in the Netherlands.
