Click here Hope to Action Conference - November 19, 2024Join the Niagara Suicide Prevention Coalition (NSPC) for a full-day conference on November 19th where you can discover the latest knowledge and practices in suicide prevention, intervention, postvention, and life promotion. Memorial Forest Vigil 2024Every October, during Mental Illness Awareness Week, Niagara Region Public Health hosts a Vigil at the Memorial Forest to honour those lost to mental illness. This year's Vigil took place on October 10th, where attendees took time to reflect, remember, and feel supported by other members of the community. For those who were unable to attend the vigil, a recording is available. We want to hear about your experiences supporting individuals along the substance use spectrumIn collaboration with partners, Niagara Region is drafting a Substance Use Strategy to align regional efforts to support individuals who use substances by looking at prevention, harm reduction, treatment and community safety. The survey will take approximately five to ten minutes to complete, and responses are anonymous. Your input matters and will help inform our multi-year strategy. Be Safe in NiagaraBe Safe is a free mobile app in Niagara that is designed to support youth in reaching out for mental health support. It can help the user make informed decisions and access relevant and reliable resources in Niagara. Be Safe can assist health care providers, teachers and parents with helping students make a safety plan. It can also be used by individuals to support a friend, family member or peer. Global Peer Support Celebration DayGlobal Peer Support Celebration Day (GPSCD) is an annual celebration of peer supporters. Peer supporters leverage their lived experience to support others having the same or similar experience, creating a unique type of mental health support that medical professionals can't always provide. This worldwide event takes place on the third Thursday in October each year. Niagara Poverty Reduction StrategyNiagara's Poverty Reduction Strategy has eight areas of focus including Mental Health and Addictions. The strategy emphasizes six conditions needed to create change such as leveraging the voices of lived expertise. The Region is providing funding to help advance the strategy. Agriculture Wellness Ontario (AgWO)Farmers and the agricultural community face constant, competing, and growing demands like unpredictable weather and unstable markets. Therefore, it can be a challenge to make mental health and well-being a priority. Agriculture Wellness Ontario (AgWO) offers free mental health education, counselling services, and peer to peer support for anyone working in Ontario agriculture. AgWo is a program of the Canadian Mental Health Association - Ontario division. REACH Niagara - New Welland Mobile Health Clinic!REACH Niagara is excited to announce a brand new mobile health clinic coming to Welland. Join them at the Division Street entrance of Holy Trinity Anglican Church (77 Division Street) every Friday from 9:00 - 11:30 am. Their clinics aim to reduce barriers to healthcare for marginalized populations in Niagara who may be in need of medical care, counselling or system navigation.
