May Series: Sneak Preview

Level 1 (8:15pm - 9:15pm)
w/ Hanah & Justin
6-Count Lindy Hop

Start dancing from day one! We will get you moving in this month-long series that introduces you to basic footwork, turns, wraps, breaks and jazzy stylin'. Covers the 6-count basics, also sometimes known as East Coast Swing, also used in Lindy Hop.

PRE-REQUISITES: None. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!

HANAH YENDLER & JUSTIN LEBAR

Level 2 (7:15pm - 8:15pm)
w/ Lori & Philippe
Charleston

Add some pizzazz to your Charleston by kicking and double-kicking our way through "airplane" charleston, Hand-to-Hand moves, Hack-saws and Kick-Throughs.  We'll even make the magical mix of Charleston Swing-Outs to really get you flying through those swingin' beats!  This is a progressive 4-week class; show up on the first week to get maximum benefit.

PRE-REQUISITES: Level 1A-D; twice through recommended. Execute a swingout, lindy circle, charleston and 6-count moves and transition between them in open and closed positions. No partner required, just bring your enthusiasm!

LORI TANIGUCHI & PHILIPPE WILSON

Level 3 (7:15pm - 8:15pm)
w/ Doug & Kevin
Rhythm & Footwork Variations

What does it mean to be musical?  What does it mean to incorporate musicality into your own body?  And how can you do any of that while engaging and playing off your partner's ideas?  This lesson focuses on developing a responsiveness to music using unusual patterns and rhythms that will challenge your connection, balance, and ear for improvisational jazz.

PRE-REQUISITES: At least nine consecutive months of Level 1 and Level 2 including one full year of social dance, or discuss your eligibility with instructors.  Under-qualified students will be asked to transfer to Level 2 in order to strengthen their fundamentals.

KEVING WENG & DOUGLAS MATHEWS

Elective (8:15pm - 9:15pm)
w/ Cari & Hannah
Al & Leon Shim Sham (solo jazz)

We already know that it ain't what you do, so let's show you another way to do it!  Besides Frankie Manning, Al Minns and Leon James are two of our most famous and proliferate leads of swing.  Most of the clips we have of them shows the two working together in dance demonstrations to audiences around the nation.  One such clip features their rendition of the shim-sham, a line dance choreography that allowed each person or group to customize moves to their own aesthetic sensibilities.  Learn this smooth, rhythmic, and altogether fun routine so you can stand out on the dance floor!

PRE-REQUISITES: Having completed 4 months of Level 1. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!

Theme Party: Spring Festival & Clothing Swap

SPRING FESTIVAL

Ah, the warmth of spring, the blue skies, the blooming flowers filling the air with their fragrance! (We might be blessed with that in California year round, but you get the idea ;)) Come and celebrate the change of the seasons with us by playing some good ol' lawn games, and, of course, winning prizes. Dress to the theme and adorn the dance floor with all the colors of spring!

CLOTHING EXCHANGE

It's that itch that we humans get with an offset of spring, the itch of getting rid of the old, and starting something new... the Spring Cleaning! And what can better take care of that itch than our beloved Clothing Swap. You know the drill: bring over your NEW or SLIGHTLY USED and CLEAN clothing, shoes, or accessories you no longer want. We'll have a corner where you can put / hang your things and look at stuff that other people brought. If you like something, it's yours! At the end of the night, don't forget to pick up your items that weren't claimed by anyone, as everything that is left behind will be donated.

Everyone is welcome to participate! We usually have more things brought than taken, so by all means, stop by and take a look!
