Cleveland’s Crazy Day sale is back bigger and better than ever this year with fantastic bargains on offer from traders, more than 100 stalls from the Cleveland Markets and Pokémon aplenty to be found on Wednesday 10 August.

Join the fun of this year’s heritage theme and dress in period costume of Old Cleveland Town. Enjoy the great line-up of local entertainment from Stone the Crows Bush Band, Redland Rhapsody Chorus and Dukes of Uke & Musique.

Message from the Mayor

Redland City Council has taken immediate action after an independent survey showed that internet access continues to be a major barrier for local business.

The survey reflected the findings of a University of Queensland School of Business report commissioned by Council that revealed poor connectivity had forced businesses to leave Redland City.

Redlands Pokéfest

Calling all Pokémon trainers, start your lucky eggs because Redlands PokéFest is a Go!

On the Brisbane Ekka public holiday Wednesday 10 August, Redlands is open for business and Pokémon hunting. There will be lures placed on all 11 Pokéstops in the Cleveland area between 9am-12pm. Share your photos on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #pokemongoredlands to be entered - there will be a prize for best dressed.

A competition that speaks volumes

The 25th National Town Crier Championships will take place in Redland City next month, with town criers from across Australia and New Zealand competing for the championship title at the Norm Price Park, Redland Showgrounds on Saturday 3 September, from 9.30am.

Sponsorship and grants 

Did you know that Redland City Council provides more than $750,000 of sponsorship and grants every year to help local organisations, community groups and individuals make a difference in the Redlands? 

Applications for the next round of sponsorship will be accepted from 15 August until 16 September 2016. The next round of community grants close on Friday 26 August, with funding available for organisation support, project support and conservation initiatives. Applications for capital infrastructure grants will close on Friday 2 September.

New Redlands Tourism Subcommittee

This month we reinforced our support of the local tourism sector by launching a committee of Redlands tourism professionals to advocate for and support the local industry.

The Redlands Tourism Subcommittee will complement the Redlands Economic Development Advisory Board and recognises the important role of tourism in the local economy.

Take a walk through Redlands Track Park

Nestled between Alexandra Hills in the west, and Cleveland in the east, the Redlands Track Park  is an easily accessible pocket of native conservation land in the heart of our city.  Although the track park is fast developing a reputation as a ‘hidden gem’ for mountain biking, its gentle gradients and meandering trails make it perfect for a relaxing bushwalk.

August events in Redland City

The Redlands continues to be a hive of activity this month, with a local Pokefest during Crazy Day, Seniors Week and the Four Islands Festival among the highlights.

The Quandamooka Festival continues to celebrate the culture, country and people of our region this month. Don't miss the Quandamooka Land for Wildlife Day on Saturday 13 August.

Trees for Weeds Day

Saturday 20 August, 8.30-10.30am

Straddie and Bay Islands - various locations.

Swap a shopping bag of weeds for a free native plant (up to five plants per person) during Trees for Weeds Island Day. 

While all weeds are accepted, island residents are encouraged to focus on Fishbone Fern and Mother of Millions this year.

Local history - celebrating strawberries

Strawberries have been synonymous with the Redlands for decades and the city’s annual spring festival has celebrated this sweet red fruit since 1958, when local strawberry farmers with a glut of produce revived the concept of a strawberry festival for the district.
