CONFERENCE 2017: Honoring Research, Making Connections, Looking to the Future

What an energizing 2017 PA Breast Cancer Coalition Conference! More than 1,000 of you joined with breast cancer survivors, esteemed oncologists, nurses, social workers, caregivers, advocates and friends. We shared our experiences, learned the latest treatment and research trends and even picked up a few new dance moves along the way. (Thank you, Pink Prancers!)

The PBCC also celebrated research beginning with Potamkin Prize Winner Dr. Clifford Hudis, CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Dr. Hudis presented a fascinating opening session on “Obesity and Breast Cancer.” At the Pink Ribbon Awards Luncheon, we honored Governor Tom Wolf for making Pennsylvania the first state in the nation to cover 3D screening mammograms at no cost to women insured under PA law. The PBCC saluted the inspiring and tireless dedication of Grassroots Partners Laraine Forry and Helen Michener who have raised nearly $90,000 for the Coalition’s programs and services in just three years!

We are in awe of this year’s Dr. William L. & Marilynn R. Kanenson Shining Light Awardees, Breaststroke 4 Breast Cancer, at the Hershey Aquatic Club (pictured to the left). The efforts of these young swimmers, their coaches and parents to make a difference in the lives of breast cancer survivors and families is remarkable.

Thank YOU for taking part in another successful Conference day! Next year will be the 25th Anniversary of the PA Breast Cancer Coalition. We hope you will continue to help us move forward in our fight to find a cure now… so our daughters won’t have to.

FDA Approves Pill for Metastatic Breast Cancer

Patients with metastatic breast cancer have a new FDA-approved treatment option. Federal regulators approved the drug, Verzenio, which blocks enzymes that promote the growth of cancer cells for women with HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. This new drug is targeted specifically for survivors who have not responded to hormone therapy.
