The beauty of art is located everywhere and what a better TRANSIT journey then an interview with Asna Habib, a Pakistani-based artist. Groundbreaking in her work, using strong, bold colors, her art fuses modernity with her strong compassion for Pakistan and her liberal surroundings of a female artist living in the greater Middle East.

Artist and curator, Baha Danesh, was thrilled to do a one-on-one interview with Asna Habib to learn about her creative endeavors across the sea.

Baha- When did you first start your creative journey?

Asna- I’ve been doing it since my childhood. When I was in grade school I used to do all of my friend's ART homework. I have always been fascinated by bright colors and using paint as my creative expression.

Baha- Does living in Pakistan cause difficulties for you to reach your artistic dreams?

Asna- Depends on what your circumstances are. I for one am blessed with a liberal family so there is no limit to my creativity. I can dream and achieve my vision as any western woman can.

Baha- Is it hard to be a female artist?

Asna- No, it’s not that hard but sometimes it depends on the available resources and the exposures one hopes to acquire.

Baha- What motivates you to keep creating?

Asna- My biggest motivations are my surroundings, every day life, and the last minute details that we tend to ignore. The Pakistani culture is laced with rich and ethnic complexity. It’s not very hard to get inspired here because motivation is located in every corner. Here in Pakistan we have people from all walks of life, from the wealthy to the poor we are surrounded by a landscape that is filled with rich beautiful color. Everywhere I look I find inspiration waiting to be unwrapped. Like I said, motivation is everywhere! Inspiration can strike at any moment, which allows me to keep creating and continuing my artistic journey.

Baha- If you had to choose a different profession, what would it be?

Asna- I love Photography. If I stopped working as a fine artist then I most likely would choose Photographer as my daily profession. I would love to capture the beauty of the world and document all of the scenic colors that surround us here on earth.

Baha- What are your creative dreams? (if anything is possible, what would you want to have happen?

Asna-  I hope to work with artists from different countries and backgrounds. I want learn from them and connect with them in their artistic environments. Simultaneously I want to paint with the purpose to serve humanity. It’s very important to bring awareness to any underrated cause and I feel like my paintings are the foundations for me acknowledge the facts.
