Click here JPC Key Message Week 10, Term 1 2020Welcome to Term 2Dear JPC community, Welcome back to another term at JPC, albeit a very different one due to COVID-19 which puts our community at a level of physical distance that none of us has ever experienced before. However, our sense of community is still stronger than ever. Something that many of you may have participated in over the holidays is ANZAC Day, where many families around Australia commemorated the day with a driveway service. This kind of community spirit is something that Australians value, and it’s something that we haven’t lost due to our physical isolation from one another. For everyone at JPC, connection and a sense of community and belonging is more important than ever to help everyone get through this tough time. The Year 12 Leaders are doing our best to help JPC stay connected, and one way we’ve been working on this is through the JPC Instagram account, @jpc_act. Throughout this term, we will be running lots of activities on the account such as games, Bible verses, polls, quizzes and fun facts about the teachers and what students are up to during isolation. We love your input, so if any member of the JPC community would like to contribute in any way, we’d love to hear from you! Send in your photos of cool things you’re doing at home, or a meme you think the community would enjoy. Keeping in touch with friends might seem a lot harder at the moment, but it’s really important! A fun way to do this is to organise a video call during lunch time, or by making a group chat. Check in with your family, too. Now is a great time to catch up with relatives, especially people like your grandparents who might be finding it hard at the moment because they have to spend a lot of time in isolation, and they will be missing you. This time is a key time to relax, and not a time to stress. We are all in this together, we all need to adapt to cope with big changes, and we need to remember to reach out to one another and support each other. Make the most of this time and try to find the positives that come from it. All the best, Gage and Georgia College Leaders School CounsellorsTo all JPC students and families, This is a reminder that JPC school counsellors are available to help any students and family members who may be finding it more difficult to cope than usual. We are currently offering face to face, online and phone sessions. This means that students can either have a session at home or can come in to school for their sessions. Students are allowed to come to school for their session even if they do not intend to stay for the whole school day. We will be taking every precaution necessary, including maintaining social distancing, using hand sanitiser and regularly wiping down surfaces, in order to ensure students safety. As usual, Jess will be working from Monday to Wednesday and Sarah will be working on Thursdays and Fridays. Please note that the counselling service is available to families too. We are always happy to chat to parents who may be struggling – and especially so now in these viral times! This can be done face-to-face (as above), online or over the phone. If you would like to book a session with one of our counsellors you can contact them using the following e-mails: Jess: jessica.sutherland@catholiccare.cg.org.au Sarah: sarah.mckenna@catholiccare.cg.org.au If you do not have a preference you can contact either counsellor and you will be booked in to the next available session. Get your entries in and tell us why ANZAC Day is important to you. Defence NewsWelcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone enjoyed their Easter celebrations with their families. ANZAC Day certainly had a different feel to it this year and I am sure your commemorations were unique. It was truly special how our Nation came together to honour and reflect in their own way and during isolation. Images of families and households standing together were very prominent on social media and in the news and they remind us that as a Nation, we carry on the ANZAC spirit of ingenuity, courage, initiative and mateship. A reminder to please send in any photos of how your family commemorated ANZAC Day this year. There is also time for your child to submit a poem for the ANZAC Day Poetry Competition (closing date has been extended). Please send to Vicki.walsh@cg.catholic.edu.au Thank you to the students who have sent in their poetry entries already. I will be checking in with your family over the next few weeks by phone or email. If you have any queries about your child’s learning, DCO’s Education Support Program or any relevant DCO entitlements, please make contact. An email was sent this week and if you have not received anything from me, please let me know. It is very important we have current contact details. In the meantime, if you have any pressing concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher. It will not be long before life moves forward and we will be putting all those newly acquired skills we learnt in isolation to good practise! Vicki Walsh, DSM CareersHello everyone!
