PNA HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS

Make a difference during PNA Village Gardening Day on May 14

Volunteers outside on PNA Village Gardening Day, in a group of other volunteers with a Village member and gardening in yards.

We're seeking volunteers to garden for our elder neighbors on Sat, May 14 from 8:30am to 12:30pm. There are more weeds and overgrown gardens than ever before so we need as many volunteers as possible! “You’ll beautify an elder neighbor’s yard and garden, and make them so happy. It will mean the world to our members that you took time to help them,” shared our Village Program Manager Rebecca Fogarty. Please email Rebecca at rebeccaf@phinneycenter.org RIGHT NOW to sign up (or at least by May 9). To keep everyone safe, proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including booster, is required to participate. A negative PCR test from within 72 hours of the event is also acceptable.

We appreciate all of the PhinneyWood superheroes who celebrated and gave from the heart. Back in Action! raised more than $80,000 to support our community-driven programs and services! Celebrate Neighbor Day with acts of kindness

Photo of Phinney and Greenwood Ave street signs.

Honor Neighbor Day this Sat, May 7 with acts of kindness for anyone who makes your neighborhood great! Former PNA Board Member Judith Wood helped establish Neighbor Day and is thrilled to see it continue. "I am delighted that Neighbor Day is still celebrated in Seattle after so many years. There have been changes in the name and the date, but the spirit remains the same—to celebrate and strengthen our neighborly connections," she shared. "Happy Neighbor Day!!"

Mission Moments

Photos from the Greenwood Senior Center of PNA Village members making paper leaves and tree trunk paper from recycled materials.

Our PNA Tree Appreciation Series brought together more than 100 community members, ages 3 to 90, to explore and enjoy trees from Earth Day to Arbor Day. PNA Village members and Phinney Neighborhood Preschool Co-op students grew a beautiful tree art project and planted it in our Blue Building lobby. The week featured tree activities for all ages, and concluded with tree story time for PNPC students and a tree walk led by local plant expert Arthur Lee Jacobson. Thank you to everyone who appreciated trees with us and to Village members Liz White and Terry Cook for seeding this new event series!
