Poverty Simulation - March 17th

If you’ve never had to make the real, hard choice between paying your electric bill or buying food for your family, then you may have a hard time understanding those for whom this is a daily reality.

At Eastview, we want to continue to grow in our ability to love people right where they are.  If people don’t feel like you understand them, it will be difficult for them to listen to you share about Jesus during Imagine, in the food pantry, at GEMS, in Benevolence, at Jesus House, and in our Community.

After meeting with the faciliator for this event, I'm even more excited about this opportunity.  You will be given a role within a family, and your family has to figure out how to survive over a 4 week period with the types of scenarios that actually happen to people in our community. You will be amazed at the choices you'll have to make--and have a better understanding of why others choose as they do.

As Pastor of Local Compassion Outreach, I am strongly encouraging anyone who cares about those in our community who are struggling to come to this free simulation and grow in compassion,

Community Volunteer Opportunities

  • Youth Build is looking for volunteers who would like to help families get into their first homes!  Need to be OSHA certified through an 8 hour training class.  The benefit of volunteering here is that you can create relationships with people as you serve them through building, painting, etc.  You don't need special skllls, just a willing heart and some time to donate.  Contact Liz Franz at 309-454-3898 ext. 234.
  • Home Sweet Home Ministries needs people to help with Fresh Market pick up of donations.  Help is needed on Thursdays between 1 and 3 pm to come to Home Sweet Home, use their van to pick up the donations from Fresh Market, and then return those donations to Home Sweet Home.  We also need help on the 2nd & 4th Friday for the same errand run.  Contact Linda Smith at 309-828-7536

Celebration Spotlight: Real Touches with Real People

Here is a beautiful look at how the body of Christ is making a difference in one man's life:

Steve is a man who is in the end stages of battling cancer. He had been coming to the food pantry for a few months after getting out of prison. While in the food pantry during a visit, Steve made the commitment to live for Christ and immediately wanted to be baptized.  The food pantry hosts were ready to celebrate this with him on the spot!  Glory Up!

Steve can't drive, but he shared that all he hoped was to be able to come to Eastview to worship on a Sunday once.  The food pantry team made sure he was able to do that.

Steve shared that he would love to be a member, but didn't have the strength to go through classes. Members of the pastoral staff went to Steve's home to welcome him into the body.

Steve's son is in prison, so our card ministry started sending him notes of encouragement. We received a letter this week from him saying how much this outreach means to him and he looks forward to coming to church with us when he gets out.

Steve's daughter is not yet a believer, but she is being overwhelmed at the authentic love that is being shown to her father.

Steve is not only a blessed man, but he has blessed so many others as they've witnessed the eternal-life saving power of Jesus through his testimony.

Glory Up!
