Click here Hi Supporter With all that has taken place over the last 12 months, how fantastic is it to see the events space [almost] back to normal in South Australia after the whirlwind of cancellations and postponements due to COVID-19. I've continued to be amazed at the dedication and generosity that you and our community have shown to support medical research and patient care. It's because of people like you that we can help make new medical discoveries and improved health outcomes possible. The last few months have been super busy and given we’ve been hearing so many incredible stories of people like you getting involved in different ways, I thought it's only fitting to share some inspirational stories of support from our wonderful community. So enjoy the read, and thank you for your continued kindness, compassion and generosity. You truly make a real difference. Kind Regards, Nicole Carey
Adelaide Bowls Club Bowl Cancer Over in support of their beloved member John
Thank you to the Adelaide Bowls Club who raised an amazing $8,562 from their 'Bowl Cancer Over' fundraiser, supporting head and neck cancer patients to obtain medical equipment and supplies to assist, or to maintain an improved quality of life. Bowls club member John Evans, pictured, was diagnosed in September 2019 with tongue cancer after his GP noticed a small lump on his neck. He was treated at Flinders Medical Centre and was very appreciative of the care he received. “I’m so grateful to everyone at Flinders who helped me during my treatment. It was one of the most difficult periods in my life.” The Adelaide Bowls Club have pledged to make Bowl Cancer Over an annual event to show their appreciation and support for others battling the disease.
Researchers, doctors and hospital staff go the distance
Congratulations to everyone who ran for team Flinders Foundation in the Leconfield Wines McLaren Vale Marathon on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April. Researchers, doctors and Southern Adelaide Local Health Network staff and patients were amongst those who ran the 42km marathon, 21km half marathon and 6km distance, raising $7,509 for different causes at Flinders, including multiple myeloma research, prostate cancer research and the building of a new paediatric playground. Well done to our top three fundraisers.
Thanks to the Chrysler Car Club of South Australia (CCCSA) who raised $600 at the 2021 Chrysler Car Club Festival for cancer research and patient care, in memory of their dear friend and club member Ian Traeger, who sadly lost his battle with cancer the week prior to the event.
