Headwaters Wins Gold at Nationals for Best Landscape Design

We are excited to announce that RVi client Freehold Communities accepted the Best Landscape Design Gold Nationals Award for Headwaters, a master planned community in Dripping Springs, Texas. The awards were announced by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) at the Nationals Gala on February 19th in Las Vegas.

Located in Dripping Springs at the confluence of Big Barton and Little Barton Creeks, Headwaters’ signature contemporary style is informed by the former ranchland’s heritage and its timeless geography. The community benefits from several key natural amenities, including majestic views of the Texas Hill Country, abundant wildlife, and rolling hills. RVi’s master plan for the site preserves over 1,000 acres of open space, with each residential lot backing up to greenbelt views. RVi also provided landscape architecture services for the community, including entry monumentation, roadway design, creation of over eight miles of scenic trails, and the design of several parks including a recreational complex with a resort-style pool and state-of-the-art amenities.

If you’ve been around Austin for any length of time, you know there are some things that never change…the State Capitol, Barton Springs, the ‘Y’ at Oak Hill. Whoa…the ‘Y’ at Oak Hill? Yes, unfortunately, this congested intersection in southwest Austin has been a monument to local anti-road sentiment for decades. As a result, several efforts to improve it have been thwarted by opposition and the crossing has maintained a most unwelcome position on TxDOT’s “100 Most Congested Highways in Texas” list (64th place in the most recent study) for years.

All that just changed. The Oak Hill Parkway, as the intersection is now called, cleared the Austin City Council on January 31, 2019 and construction of the $545 million project is scheduled to begin in 2020, with completion expected in 2024.

Drew to the Rescue

RVi takes workplace safety seriously. As part of this commitment, we’ve assembled an Emergency Response Team within each office and provided training to employees so they are better prepared to assist in any emergency. We were happy to learn that this training paid off outside of the office when our own Drew Carman, Project Manager in Austin, put his training to use over the holidays while he was visiting family in Kentucky.
