Pioneer Pulpit"God's Waiting Room"
Your pastors are crafting a new collection of Livestream homilies to deal with a menagerie of lockdown emotions—unwelcome houseguests of sorts, like the yowling neighbor’s cat you wish you’d never volunteered to board—fear, loneliness, anxiety, discouragement—unwanted companions inside the four walls of “God’s Waiting Room.” Turns out a veritable Who’s Who of fellow sufferers knew this waiting room rather well. Pray for the Big AppleLast week the leaders of the Greater New York and the North-Eastern conferences invited me to a Zoom conversation. (Will there be Zoom in heaven?—I am praying not—it’s not that I’m ungrateful for the technology—but oh boy, after a while it sure loses its shine!) In conversation with these church leaders in the Big Apple, I learned that this COVID-19 pandemic has not only turned New York City into the nation’s epicenter for this coronavirus. It has ravaged the Seventh-day Adventist
community—to the place we have 400 of our brothers and sisters now infected with the deadly disease, and another 100 members have already died at its hands. Read More | Subscribe to Blog
Volunteer Engagement Committee
Needs YouIt feels quite strange to have Pioneer's Volunteer Engagement Committee—chair, David Nowack; vice-chair, Jim Ford; secretary, Heidi Ha; along with a score of Pioneer members—busily at work amid this pandemic lockdown from their homes. Phone calls and emails are going out to fill the nearly 600goo volunteer positions. If you haven't heard from them yet, please prprayerfully consider saying YES to the invitation to serve your home church this new year (July 1). The committee thanks all who have already responded. Praise at HomeThank-you to our University student-led team who lead us in worship this past Sabbath as we celebrated our graduates and their achievements. Here's a look back at our praise from May 2.
Family, Faith, & Fun!Spend some quality time outside this week. In your yard, set up a tent, create a tepee out of long branches and blankets, or make a lean-to with branches and a tarp/blanket/sheet. Set out a blanket and have a picnic with your favorite foods. Or build a campfire and roast s’mores, hot dogs, or veggies in foil packets. Tell a story with your family by having each person add a sentence to a prompter phrase, such as, "Once upon a time, there was a….
" If the weather isn’t cooperating, build a blanket fort inside, have an indoor picnic, read a book out loud, or do the shared story. Your story could even be about meeting Jesus back in Bible times or in Heaven, or what you would do on the New Earth!
COVID-19 ResourcesSelf-isolating because of COVID-19? We are here to help! We have a team of volunteers who can help pick up things for you like groceries or medicine, and they can even call you to pray with you. Let us know how we can help!
