NEWSLETTER
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2019

Dear friends and colleagues,

With the Amazon rainforest ablaze and little Greta landing in New York, could there be a better time to share with you our events to face up to the climate emergency? In the opinion of this monthly newsletter writer, probably not.

Firstly, on 11 September, we will try to better apprehend the problem of plastic waste. By bringing together sustainability experts, professionals in waste management, scientists, entrepreneurs and activists from among our organisations, can we create a low-plastic zone Knowledge Quarter?

And what about a low-carbon zone? I imagine you asking. On 27 September the KQ and Transport for London will convene our supply chain – that diverse and mysterious body of men and women who make the world go round conveniently for everyone else. They will be examing the environmental impact of inefficient deliveries, logistics and consolidation practices, in an effort to reduce our collective carbon footprint.

Looking back, as we do in this newsletter, August was a quiet month, as we began our start-up ecosystem research, and opened and closed submissions for our 2019 public festival. But a highlight was a trip to the Royal College of General Practitioners to see What Once Was Imagined in the company of Dr Liz Lee, who partnered with the artist Susie Freeman on the exhibition. This was our Exhibition of the Month and is definitely worth seeing while it remains open.

It is with some regret that I inform you that, for this newsletter session, Exhibition of the Month is prorogued.

In the meantime, so you're not drumming your fingers or tearing out your hair in September wondering how much more Dickensian things can get, we've packed the events and exhibitions listings to distract you, including a KQ Private View to the Dickens museum.

More events and jobs below to share around with friends and colleagues, and then encourage them to subscribe.

With best wishes,

Knowledge Quarter Team
