Composer Opportunities

NZTrio invites entries from New Zealand university composition students to write a new work for piano trio that references, or responds to, Douglas Lilburn's life and work. The winning works will be performed by NZTrio in two public Winners’ Concerts in October. Read more here...

CMNZ Open Stage

The registrations for Chamber Music New Zealand's Open Stage open on 27 March. This is a new initiative where CMNZ open their concert stages to amateur performers around the country, during their Composer Connections tour.

If you are thinking of performing, get in touch with SOUNZ: we can help you find inspiration and repertoire suggestions for any ensemble. And if you're looking for someone to play with, contact CMNZ.

As for composers: this is an unmissable opportunity to get your work performed in front of your local audiences and on CMNZ stage. Contact SOUNZ and we can put you in touch with your local community groups.

SOUNZ Executive Director Julie Sperring attended the IRMTNZ Conference earlier this year - along with over 130 music teachers from all over NZ.

High Five!

High Five! If you’re a pianist, think about adding this book to the pile on the top of your piano. I have – and for me it is a great reminder of the many inspiring presentations offered at the IRMTNZ’s annual conference Lilburn’s Legacy: Fostering Musical Creativity. Whether you’re a teacher or you occasionally sit at the piano and doodle, these five short pieces commissioned by the Wellington Branch of IRMT, will certainly spark your imagination.

It was a real pleasure to offer SOUNZ’s support for the conference this year and video of this session along with presentations by Philip Norman, Peter Walls and Gillian Bibby will be available on SOUNZ online in the near future.

Did you know that NZ On Air have been supporting local content for 25 years? One of their funded projects is SOUNZ's Resound. To celebrate, NZ On Air have put together a page looking back at what’s changed in 25 years, celebrating the wealth of local stories, songs and services funded for television, radio and online audiences. Enjoy here...
